i don't usually re-read books - but i read this book in high school - that's not yesterday - and i decided to read this book again - because it still remains a bestseller to this day - and this is the only book the author - Harper Lee - ever wrote

after the re-read - some 30+ years after high school - the book was chilling and fresh - the theme was not tired

through the eyes of a child . . .

how bout that seveen...i was just struck by the same nostalgic quest. I just discovered netflix a couple weeks ago. The first movie i rented was to kill a mockingbird. i had only small bits from the movie in my memory from when i was a child.

watching it as an adult, it was interesting to note which pieces of the movie had stuck with me...like the courtroom scenes... was a great flick. Had forgotten all about the drunk man that assaulted the kids on the way home from the school play.

Seven..I never read the book as a child but I watched the movie. Once I thought I was ordering online When A Cage Bird Sings. It turns out I order To Kill A Mockingbird (not unusal for me) I was disppionted but decided to read it anyway. I was so glad I didn't return it, it was an excellent read, you described it perfectly.

TKAM is a timeless classic. I've revisited some novels I have read in high school. Most recently, Wuthering Heights. I think I appreciate them now more than I did back then. I would love to get my hands on some Caribbean novels I read back then as well.

it reminded of me of the John Grisham novel "A Time To Kill"

but with a lot more feel of the South

i could feel the lazy days of summer

and the neighbors all seemed so real

the scene i remembered the most from reading the book/watching the movie - was the scene with Scout - Hi Mr. Cunningham - when they were about to beat Atticus down

didn't Gregory Peck play Atticus? he was the perfect pick - i want Atticus to be my daddy

I love that book! I have read it many many times and I still enjoy it each time, I actually prefer the book to the movie, but everytime I read it and near the end when she sees Boo for the first time in the shadows and know instinctively that it is him and says real calm 'Hey Boo.." gets me every time!

and you know Boo killed the drunk not Jem

thus the "to kill a mockingbird" metaphor and to have Scout realize it was spine tinkling

[img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif[/img] Yes I think that part was really good because you knew Atticus being the upstanding citizen that he was felt torn about having to 'lie' about the situation, but the mockingbird analogy was on point. Think it should be our next book club book?

I'm going to put down "The Interruption of Everything" and start on The Emperor of Ocean Park - it's a big thick juicy looking book

after that Jamaica Girl - about a Jamaican Lolita

then Imminent Resistance - takes place in Jamaica - recommended by boardite Linstead
