Natasja is the first non-Jamaican reggae/dancehall artist ever to win the Jamaican "Irie FM Big Break Contest". Natasja entered the competition in may 2006: 700 contestants, 12 finalists, and one winner! The exposure she is getting in the Jamaican press, TV & radio right now is tremendous!
As a result she’s had her music video for her winning song "45 Questions" in constant rotation on Jamaican television and radio, and have done numerous live shows in Jamaica, including live features with some of the biggest Jamaican dancehall stars (Elephant Man, Ninja Man, Macka Diamond to mention a few), and live perfomances on Sumfest 06 and Sting 06. Furthermore she has also recorded singles for some of the biggest Jamaican producers - among others Arif Cooper and legendary Sly & Robbie. The result of these recordings has already enjoyed exclusive pre-spin on air in Jamaica and will hit other territories within the coming months.
The half Danish and half Sudanese Natasja Saad started out singing /"dee-jaying" in Copenhagen at the age of 13 with local Jamaican soundsystem Sky Juice. At a concert opening for Macka B and Arriwa Posse, Mad Professor was blown away by the talent of the young artist - which brought her to a trip to the Arriwa Studio in London. Later she found herself facing a crowd of 10.000 people at Geel Reggae Festival in Belgium playing live with Mad Professor and Robotics Backing band, and opening shows for Macka B, Crucial Robbie, Kofi, and Tippa Irie.
She was ahead of her time when she alongside Ms Mukupa introduced raggamuffin to the Danish hip hop community in the early nineties. "No Name Requested" as the trio was called developed their own style and especially Natasja's fast and unique "reggae-rap" made them receive massive respect and attention.
In 2005 she released the 12" single "Cover Me", and the single "Summercute", followed up by her long anticipated debut album "Release" which have gained overwhelmingly positive reviews by the Danish Press. She also featured on Danish Bikstok Røgsystem’s hit single "Cigar". Furthermore she released the single "Time 2 Fly" for the German reggae label Germaicans on the Rodeo riddim, which is out as the anchor tune on the Germaicans Rodeo compilation album, and she featured on the single and video "Amantide" from the Italian super reggae band Africa Unite’s 5th album.
In 2006 she released two singles in Danish, "Mon De Reggae" and "Op Med Ho’Det", and also featured on Danish chart busting hip hop duo Upho & Yepha’s hit single "Haengekoejen" which has made her enter the Danish charts on a serious level. On the live scene she’s practically been touring more or less constantly in Denmark during 06 - both with her own shows and with Showstoppers Reggae Splash Tour alongside fellow artists Chin, Ms Mukupa, Mandingo & Universal Sound System.
Currently Natasja is working on two albums: An international Album in english and an album in Danish for Denmark. Expected release: April 2007. Keep your ears open!!
