I don't think people will be still be playing his songs years from now, in tha classic way, decades in the future, next generation - after he's gone, as they do Marley, Gaye, etc.

Yes - he's got hits - sure. But just because you've got hits, doesn't mean you're talented (Britney Spears).

Lot's of people have had hits in the past - and that's just where they are now - in the past.

respected? I don't know anyone that respects him, even if he WAS highly revered, he is not the Muhammud Ali, the Martin Luther King, the Bob Marley, the Marvin Gaye of this time. Those people were more than just stars intheir genre, they were and are heroes for mankind. aside from being a pop star what makes R. Kelly that calibre? the aforementioned people have given up freedoms and risked their lives and livelyhoods to make a stand so that opressed people would not be oppressed.

when where and what did R. Kelly do what equals those efforts? even if he wasn't a pedophile give me examples of what he's ever done to be considered in the same notion as anyone of those people he likend himself to.

You can like or dislike his music, but he can't even come CLOSE to those people.

Popularity and respect are two very different categories. people who are respected don't get lampooned about their sexual deviances.

I think anyone who is comparing themself musically to Bob is crazy......but again I say...he will become a classic artist and his music will be played jus as how marvin gaye's music is being played today. watch and see. To me marvin gay is not special. very good artist jusl ike coco tea, junior reid and dem man deh.

But you have to realize MArvin Gaye made an album to promote brotherhood peace awareness of the environment when Barry Gordy told him to just make some more standard motown hits. why because marvin felt he had to get a message out. he put his career on the line to say what he had to say. Aisde from people being a fan of his he took a direction that EVERYONE told him not to take and a direction that the man who signed his cheques flatout ordered him not to take. the only reason Gordy allowed that album to be made was because Marvin said tohim - "if I finish this album in a month you guys willpay for it and promote it, if I don't then it comes out of my pocklet and I do whatever you want me to do. "

Gordy thought this was an easy win since Marvin was notorious for being a slow worker. But Marvin believed in his message so strongly that he made the deadline even though he didn't believe it would be a commercial success.

I don't think R. Kelly's stuff will be played like the classic stuff - it's not timeless it's too year specific. i mean you'll hear it now and again but it won't be considered a classic standard. just an oldie. but that's for the future to deem - the main point is that the people he mentioned all made sacrifices and took risks for something bigger than their own popularity, safety and monetary gain they all did something that advanced us as a people and at their own expense and THAT is why they are revered. forget about the music aspect and look he compared himself to Ali and Martin Luther King...I mean for WHAT???

well.....lets focus pon the 90s to present. which R and B artist stand out more and put out more hits than kelly? His new song Flirt is a nice song. an r&b artist dont have to be singing about rose petal and candle lights fi mek a nice song or sound like a p.... all the time fi mek a nice song. a simple song like flirt will do. we need that some times.
