Jamaican musician Andy Vernon's Upcoming CD Release

[Tropicana]

I have already profiled Andy's skills on the polo field in the sports section. However, in addition to being a 4 goal polo player (which is quite an accomplishment), Andy is a Jamaican whose talents seem to be never ending. Talk about talent, he sings, plays guitar, keyboards, bass and percussion. He writes, arranges and produces all his songs. He has performed at Reggae Sumfest and Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues and many other shows.



Andy grew up listening to groups such as Aswad, Third World, Steel Pulse, Chalice, and Bob Marley, hence his love for live music. He uses his music as a vehicle to sing about the injustices that plague our society and keep people oppressed and discouraged. His music inspires his listeners with his “never bow” (never give up) philosophy.

Andy Vernon is busy working on Chronicles of a Culture Man, his soon to be released CD. In the meantime, you can check out his video and sound clips on MySpace:

I finally had a chance to check out the video for Pray for Justice. KILLA riddim....great lyrics. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70409-waytogo.gif[/img] Would love to hear a dub version of this one.

Can't Stop us Now has a really rootsy feel. I wonder if that is Andy toasting at the beginning and at different times on this track. I enjoy roots music so this one gets my vote for sure.

Culture Man - love the lyrics and the music. Irie and Mellow is just that Irie and Mellow and smooth as gold.

Will report on the other tracks when I get a chance. Seems to me that this CD is shaping up nicely. Can hardly wait to hear the rest.

im music soun like Big Mountain.. Sorry im need a new lyrist dem is nice but pedestrian ... One track soun like im lif a Santana Guitar rift.... Its very good, a talent not yet revealed to the majority public even though Andy`s at Sumfest.

He might need a little pushing marketing wise to put him more in the spotlight if he so desires.

Pray for Justice is really growing on me. It's a catchy tune and easy to remember. The lyrics and images are powerful. It's probably my favourite with Can't Stop us Now is a close second for me. I am a sucker for anything rootsy with toasting and conscious lyrics.
