When Love Calls, You Better Answer: A Novel by Bertice Berry
Long-dead Aunt Babe looks over her niece, Bernita Brown, a middle-aged social worker with a track record of failed relationships. From the perspective of the afterlife, Aunt Babe can see the mistaken paths of Bernita's life. Aunt Babe had virtually raised Bernita in a highly dysfunctional household of anger, bitterness, and violence. Repenting her own misspent life of sexual promiscuity, which she failed to keep Bernita from witnessing, Babe seizes her chance to make amends. Through tactful maneuvering of people and circumstances in Bernita's life, Babe guides her niece to a deeper understanding of herself. Babe watches Bernita stumble through a loveless marriage, a series of self-actualization groups, and a corrupt church--all with predatory males anxious to take advantage of her lack of self-esteem. Bernita is left distrustful of men and resigned to loneliness until Babe guides her toward true love. Fans of Berry will enjoy her latest novel portraying one woman's search for spirituality and love. Vanessa Bush
Disguised as a voice from the grave, Bertice Berry mesmerizes readers as she unveils the call of love that rings in the ears of Benita and other innocent characters.
The late Aunt Babe will make you laugh, cry, holler, and listen as she watches over her adult neice, Benita... and you. Take note of her wisdom, humor, and pain that reverberate from the pages. Even the music she speaks of will have you swaying... especially "When Your Life Was Low" by Joe Sample & Lalah Hathaway!
"When Love Calls, You Better Answer" is an awesome story creatively woven with wit. It evokes the deepest wounds, fears, and joy that often hinder us from experiencing true love. Though this is not a romance novel, it is packed with love for self, family, and others. I highly recommend this novel and others by Bertice Berry. She is a gifted, literary griot who satisfies readers with profound messages in simple tales.

I was checking some books out for baby J last Friday at the library I noticed this book thought I'd give it a try. So glad I did I couldn't put it down and was sorry to come to the end because it is such a clever book.
