I would strongly recommend this book, in fact I would like every single head of government in the world to read it......I read it slowly over about three months. It is an easy read This is an account of the near past challenges associated with energy as far as 2011. It looks at the full mix including renewable (solar, wind, biomass) .. non traditional hydrocarbon, Nuclear, conserwation, efficency. It looks at the history of climate change science. The cool thing is that it looks at challenges and advantages. covers China, the car industry, batteries, carbon trading. The pro and cons of market. It highlighted how fast moving energy policy has been in the last 100 years
There are surprises: Reagan the nemisis of the environmentalist started one of the most effective anti pollution organisation when governor of california ....Margret Thatchers enviromental Mansion house speech which was under reported wone that was the first acknowlegement of eneviromental impact by an world leader, Bush II most important speech drawing attention to the hydrocarbon addiction.. How Rosvelts premier projects destroyed what would have been an enviromentally sensitve energy system... At times true beleivers dont listen...
it is not a polemic of anti capitalism....nor is it an ideal of conspiracy theorist idea of thruth...
He agrees with alot of what I postulated over the years where security energy is concern. And one that in 1910 Winston Churchill articulated when as first lord of the admiralty he made a switch from coal to oil. Variety Variety variety... (this switch led to the containment of the German fleet, thus lead to the isolation of Von Lettow in East Africa which lead to the death of 20 million Africans... But Von Lettow with materiel of war would have defeated the allies and a german colony from east to South west Africa would have lead to more Herero style butchery... this last bit is me projecting)
