Thank you all who participated in the discussion on "The Pirate's Daughter", and to the author, Margaret Cezair-Thompson, for taking the time to answer our questions.
Time to start thinking about the next discussion. I would prefer a Jamaican author that can later come in and join our discussion, but I'm open to all suggestions.
Here's my suggestion:
Beverly East. Reaper of Souls.
Told in a first person narrative, the novel is based on a true story of a family who lost most of it's members in the Kendal train crash, written from a point of view of the grand daughter. With just 3 siblings and the maid remaining out of the whole clan, the story unfolds differently for each of the siblings. The author shows people's different reactions to when an unthinkable catastrophe hits. It also shows that one can survive even the darkest hours.
It's a little moving at times, but a good read.
