So I was listening to some music and kinda comparing some classics from other artist from other places and mi affi tell you...jamaica up deh if not surpass dem all with the caliber of artist come from jamaica and the music.

a just listen to bob marley Redemtion Song. and John Lennon's Imagine and while john's song is great...bob's just move me.



How does a european relate to a song like Africa Unite by Bob Marley?

in hte UK there was a senior conservative MP Teddy Taylor who became a Bob Marley fan... He was disliked by Thatcher.. He began listening after the Brixton riots and was quite a fan.. He made an interesting point.. That Bob addressed a number of human issues of self respect and self reliance.. yet under all of the need to care for one another and social responsibility Bob beleived that we should be responsible to do better for our selves......

It made an intruging thing to hear bob interpreted that way by a right wing person.. While I recall Trvour Munroe swearing that Bob was a proto communist.....

Thats a good way to look at it and it takes a special person to see it that way.

I dont think I could relate to a song that is pretty much irrelevant to me.

can't remeber bob ever endorsing one particular economic/political system or another...i only remember him saying he was a farmer so even if they never gave him a penny he would have to live...
as far as the topic; european/american bands like u2, sting, johnny cash, bob dylan have made socially & politically conscious tunes that move their audiences...
'bloody sunday' by u2 comes to mind...
