Christians who curse

I haven't been here much so do not know if this topic has already been discussed.

How do you guys feel about Christians who say that they are saved, sanctified and filled, who curse at a moment's notice?

I have found that this behavior has become more acceptable by others in the church, and wondered if I am just too old-fashioned.

I've thought all along that although no one is perfect, the aim of christians is to be as Christ-like as possible and not to try and blend in with non-christians so much so that people are shocked when they are told that you are a Christian.

Have I just been too traditional?

I don't personally know of any christians who curses like a sailor. And no you're not old-fashioned in thinking that it's something that shouldn't be. What I've come to learn is that christians are &quot;sinners under God's construction&quot;. We are human firstly and the flesh and the spirit are constantly battling --<span style="font-weight: bold">daily</span>. Once a person gets saved, it is a process and stopping sin cold turkey just doesn't happen contrary to popular belief. But I find that the deeper the relationship with God is, the easier it is to combat whatever vice it is we struggle with.

That is exactly my point.

I know the road is long and hard etc., however, I find it shocking to see the behavior of some who should not be so easily influenced, and if all else fails should just follow the &quot;word&quot;.

There are some on this board for example, <span style="font-weight: bold">Compry, Mrs Ahmidis and Church Dude</span> and a few others who conduct themselves with such grace that you do not have to guess that they are Chistians. Isn't that what it should be about?

I understand the hardship but with God on their side, shouldn't that be half the battle won, or is it an individual initiative?

I was having this discussion the other day. I personally can't see why I have to stop cursing. I have yet to understand why cursing is such a &quot;bad&quot; thing, and when did those words become so taboo. I don't see where in the scripture it speaks out about those particular words. I was having that debate with my pastor. I don't (or should I say rarely ever) curse AT people or ABOUT them. It's just that when I talk one or two words will fly out....whats the big deal?

Admittedly swearing doesnt feature much in the bible,however,The choice should be with the individual whether to use colorful language or not,if you call yourself a christian and set yourself above others on a moral pedestal then your words and actions should reflect what you say you believe in,christians cant have it both f...ing way,and they shouldnt ,...practise what you preach.

perhaps in a reasoned debate. but to what i understand, jesus was highly peed, and probably would have made his opinion manifestly clear by some choice secular shorthand.
