To ansa ChineseJamaican: Mi noh know if it was 'forced' dem days, as most jamaicans were 'religious' minded, even if dem noh goh church and were not christians. Don't know about these current days. Good question. Maybe it is option now in the schools?
I had pleasant memories of having devotions and such in school. Others may not share similar 'religious' experience in school in JA, but I enjoyed it.

They didn't know any better either. It was what it was.

I don't know what it is like now, but when I was in high school almost all of the public high schools in Kingston were administered and affiliated with a religious group: Catholic, Anglican, Methodist, Judaism, Baptist, Seventh Day, are the ones I can think of. There were devotions and sermons in the tradition of the affiliated religion.

I went to an Anglican high school for girls and the Bishop would visit regularly for our weekly assembly. We had daily prayers in the morning. I remember there were several students who were exempt from devotions and it was no big deal. I went to school with girls Christian, but also Coptic, Jewish, Hindu, and Muslim.

Times were what they were. **Shrug**
