I, personally have to give the journalists a and for even making the trip there to record stories...things are getting rough now....people who haven't had food or water for days are impatient &amp; on the edge of riot for survival....it is not pretty....plus the stench of the dead in 90 degree heat surely is not pleasent.

I did not see any copy from the journalist filmimg the voodoo ritual, only comments from Ja.com boardies.....see that as you will. </div></div>

true- we have seen no copy re the 'ceremony', but i doubt they were tourists or passers-by, and i doubt their accounts were any more glowing than some of our boardies chose to use...
some of the shameful comments by some boardies on yah speak for themselves...

Saw a reporter on Larry King speaking of &quot;voodoo burial&quot; which he described as witnessing the pouring of rum, sugar and throwing three<span style="color: #FF0000"> handfuls (spellcheck) of dirt into the grave***&quot;</span> <span style="font-weight: bold">so that the dead will not return for them</span>....[they don't want to be &quot;next&quot;.]

What am I missing?

Here I am thinking that a voodoo burial ritual would incorporate a belief in the &quot;future of the deceased's soul&quot; in the after-life.. in oddahwords how they fare in the new existence..

I remember when &quot;we&quot; [J'cans]used to pass young babies who were relative of the deceased over coffins; cut the pockets out of men's suits etc etc...mi wondering hiff dem kanfusing superstition with &quot;voodoo&quot;...I think there is a difference.

In the past, at Jamaican burials they used to ***throw three handfuls of dirt into the grave when they &quot;commit the body back to the ground&quot;...&quot;Dust to dust, ashes to ashes&quot;..<span style="font-weight: bold">This was/is a Christian practice</span>...the pastor also participating...

Could the reporter be in confusion as to what is Voodoo and what is not? I think so..and *I* am NOT defending Voodoo.....It is so sickening and exasperating when outsiders deliberately spread negativity about a people who they know diddly squat about; and do it with such <span style="font-weight: bold">conviction</span> as if their word is &quot;truth.&quot;

I would say, no more so than what we Jamaicans used to do during the early days of our emancipation from slavery. They are stuck culturally in a time zone that has long past. We all know some of the reasons why. They were not allowed to build their society by being in control and by interaction with others who meant them well.. The Colonial yoke and imperial forces stood in their way...

We need to be sensitive especially at this time. The foreign media types predominantly &quot;white&quot; are more interested in playing it up because the mystery and the exagerations sells..You could see the white hand behind the camera in some scenes...

Talk about an observation lost on so many people IN the Caribbean! Black and while folks in [some] churches, hooting, hollering, bawling, jumping around the place, convulsing and doing cartwheels, acting possessed and call it the &quot;holy spirit of god&quot; then turn around and claim the Haitian Voodoo ceremonies that harken back to the motherland and have VERY similar elements is of Satan. Go figure!
