The whole moderator thing at Jams.com is to protect the tender minds of children who may come here and read something that could light their hair on fire.

But the reality is that it is the adults who are being protected from naughty kids who might come here and write rude things.

What has evolved (there are no children reading here) is that there are a dozen &quot;moderators,&quot; who moderate what three dozen regular posters talk about. And in this forum there are less than a dozen regular posters.

True enough. And that is major, in the mind of the webmaster, but IMHO I would say it is just a part of it. In addition, I would say that moderating obligations include (in general) ensuring and maintaining that community's atmosphere remains open, liberating for all posters to post and communicate their thoughts and interact with each other. Would you agree?

Are you saying that-generally speaking-'some' adults act as children? What constitues 'rude' as it pertains to this forum?

Silent River, this place used to be de hottest place on the board at one time. It was hot wid discussion, hot wid fiyah, hot all around. There were quite a few non believers in here, even gay activists who believe in JC.
Nuff good conversations did a gwaan, even a few good fisticuffs as natral call it.
Xavier nevah like wah did a gwaan aftah a while an decided fi change up tings and eva since den nuff non christian talk has been stifled down here enough until everybody jus get tiyad an leff ya. De locking of de chredd when nuttin did a gwaan een deh look like smaddy did worried seh some anti christian tings were going to buss, suh like de romans and police lets crush it before tings even stawt.

A jus suh it did look tuh mi.

To me it looks like people believe, but their 'tree of belief' has shallow roots and cannot stand the wind of examination, so they stay away from contributing lest the roots become exposed.

I would hope that they recognize the value in being tested, the need to study the word to find themselves approved, and come back with some reasoning, show that the word is watering those shallow roots...

Of course, thats just my opinion, I could be wrong...

Not so at all Quodlibet, it has nothing to do with anyones roots in the word. Even those that were/are non believers were well versed in the &quot;word&quot;.

It was more exciting down here back then, than anyting inna GD as of late.

mmmm Okay, I see.

As it stands though, I cannot speak for the webmaster on what occurred. The occurence was before I became moderator. Maybe that is a discussion to further in the Feedback Section if you feel that way?
I participated in some of those 'hot' conversations (as you put it ) as a boardite, not as mod, but i do recall some of those convos. I agree they were great convos and I do miss some of the participants-Christians and non-christians-because they brought a wealth of information, but, unfortunately, where as some of them started out as great convos, some turned into all out 'war'. You gotta admit though, there were some tense moments and the atmosphere would have to forcefully changed. Sure must have been challenging as a mod.

But regarding this forum, I am wondering why the issue of stifling when there were non-Christians as moderators in the past, and *if* there is a current feeling of stifling going on, there is current mod who is a non-christian. So maybe the reason lies with christian moderators? Are christian moderators perceived as the enforcers of this 'system'?

Could you consider another reason for people leaving this forum? Maybe the reason is not entirely because they felt stifled and then they left? As I have seen throughout the years, people do leave for a myriad of 'life' reasons. Some came back, and some did not.

And finally, what could be a possible solution to all of this?

Well, maybe they do stay away but maybe not for the reason you stated. Could it be the <span style="font-style: italic">approach</span> to some of the conversations allow people to stay away? I am speculating..
