wat we have fallen into again as u could say our new Fall, is the unwillingness to become the person of God...we dont want to be used by God , we want to use God....

we expect our circumstances to be changed to wat we view as a happy medium and Christianity does not promise that....ur happiness is within...u may be poor in circumstance wich no one wants to be but u r not to seek that in ur search....people chastise slaves for believing in the milk and honey of the sky but in some ways they had a faith that has been lost with material gains....

Maybe I'm not understanding you here but take this forum for example...from the handful of those who participate here, only a small percentage are believers (Christians). I'm repeating myself here but I've seen where catering to the "person" as a whole has worked...mind body spirit.

yes it does.. it keeps them out of locations where men actually are!

People rob banks because thats where the money is: So women should look for husbands where ,men are ... They are not in the church.. simple targeted marketing!

i have to say that my understanding comes from Jesu's response to the Disciples when they asked him about the feeding of the crowd that led to the parable of the fish n brea

Comps! I think I understand what you're saying and, in general, I do agree with you, but I also think like Evan that we really have to move beyond the point of making the church into our image <span style="font-style: italic">per se</span>. The more time passes the more I realize that most contemporary believers want a church that conforms to their image and responds more to their needs. You know, up until the most distant past, lol, I used to be a strong proponent of the church implementing programs and ideas that would 'attract' people - and for the most part, the church has actually done this, but to its own detriment. Most believers no longer want to hear the simple message of Christ and Him crucified. Instead, the church must also tack on 'and after He was crucified He got me the house, the benjamins. the husband/wife', and whatever else an individual entering the church desires to tack on.

So yes, the church should respond to the whole person, but the message of Christ and Him crucified presented simply and without fanfare really ought to be the cornerstone of such a response. Contemporary moves within the church lacks this integral strategy, however, and if the church does have a strategy, implementation is usually skewed or difficult

interesting discussion.

i think "church" is social forum that draws people to hear the Word, and also draws them into a community. the individual relationship with God doesnt need to take place in church. i've encountered men who read their Bibles at home but don't go to church.

the assumption that a man does not go to church because he may not believe in the power of the Word or of God in his life is a big assumption, i think.

Vanny, I'm battling the flu right now so please forgive the late or limited response. The bottom line is, in addition to preaching/teaching the Word of God, the church <span style="font-weight: bold">also </span>need to have programs in place that would attract/encourage men and women to attend.

dis is why yuh is mi favorite non-Christian person.

If we want black men in the church, we need to provide a reason for them to come cause as you said MG and I find it to be true with some that I know...dem read dem Bible and pray at home. KRT has done that and whole heap a dem going to dat church.

so we cater to the emotionalism and they stay because of the emotionalism....and we admit that the original purpose of the church, the community of like minded is defeated since we have to change the church to their agenda to get dem in....

anybody can read the BIble...the purpose for doing so is the critical thing u cannot get people by one agenda and den expect them to appreciate the Truth in its totality since it was not presented to them in total at the start...wich comes to y people ongle will tolerate certain messaages from the pulpit...

mite sound too objective but there u have it...u even Jesus said He did not come to CHNAGE the law but to fulfill it an here we r in the C21st saying we have to marginalise His message and method to somehow adhere to His call for evangelism....

from what i've read of the development of the early church, it was emotionalism that was the key to its success. disciples willingness to do whatever - even face death - because of heir high emotional attachment to Jesus's message was what made some in authority stop and take a second look at what was considered at the time to be a very pesky cult.

i'm curious, vannie, about your definition of community of like-minded. it appears that you consider likemindedness to be a constant state. however, human beings are ever changeable, and it is humans that create the community called church so they can worship together. so adapting to enable the growth of the community seems to me to be at the very least a natural development when it comes to church.

1. What gets a man/person to church is their desire to have a personal relationship with God.

2. What is going to keep them there in addition to the Word of God and their desire to have that relationship with God, are various programs catering to their needs.

There is no watering down of the Truth. Again I may be misunderstanding you but it seems as though you think that <span style="font-style: italic">only </span>the Word of God should be taught in the church. I beg to differ. If my church is offering a program in addition to the regular sermons on how to get out of a financial mess using godly principles, I'm gonna go. If my church is offering a program on divorce care or being a single Christian, and I want to go, I will go. There is no need to send me to a secular therapist if I have some emotional issues if counselling can be offered in my church. See what I'm saying? We are not compromising the Word of God by inviting the men to join with other men and have a prayer breakfast on a Saturday mornings or go and hang out at a ball game together. To me, that's building the church.

i thought the likemindedness was obvious....God....an if humans r ever changeable then their claim to belief is ongle a stage dem going thru...but then i have foreva avowed dat the last Prophet sent from God was Jesus so maybe that is y i believe that all the social definitions that r created to amuse the new believers r the work of those who themselves doubt that the Word is enuff...after all He did say it was not going to be easy an all who called His name would not be recognized

if u argue from the perspective that man seeks God and not realise dat God seeks man n that with the first u find man setting the terms of his response....Jesus said His purpose was to seek an save that was lost (Luke)

the Bible is not man's search for God but God;s search for us to be redeemed to Him

maybe we r reached in different ways wen we sit down to read the Bible...quality of relationship vs quantity amassed purportedly having knocked and been received...it begs to wonda under whose lynchpin of approval they seek entry...

i have to ask in re of these new comers to the church..wich came first...the call of God r is it the mess of finance, the mess of relationships etc dat di local parson seh him can cure if u come to him church

again i say, look to Jesu's response to the Disciples whenever they would ask anyting about finances...is not dat him was saying wait an pray but that ur change in attitude is a total change in lifestyle wich makes u more responsible across the board...consider the lilies,etc etc...neither toil etc etc but Their Father in Heaven provides etc etc...how does He provide...that is wat people need to understand...it is all in The Word...cause in the end The Word provides ur new life, new attitude ,new thinking in etc in line etc et
