The fact that the Taliban blew up that Buddah statue was the final straw in my support of the invasion at the time.....The same thing happened to the Byzantine church Frieze in Letis Magna...

Raises an interesting question... in the 70's alot of rasta artist began copying the Selassie gesture where the finger tips on both hands were touching.. Was this a personal gesture or does it have buddist meaning ????. I usto try it and it does have an effect as I find it hard to maintain and requires concentration... </div></div>

these gestures bear significance across many cultures and philosophies.

look at the statue of the maize god from the Mayan culture on the previous page, same gestures as the Buddha statue. and there are lots lots lots more too.

it's not copied from buddhism...
the sign represents balance...
it points upward as well as downward...heaven &amp; earth...the ascent representing spirituality and the descent representing physicality...
life requiring that humanity balances both aspects to achieve enlightenment...
it's also the trinity- the triangle...haile selassie literally means &quot;power of the trinity&quot; in the ethiopian amharic language

makes complete sense!!! I mean, pointing, mouthing for food, etc. some gestures are universal simply due to the human condition.

Ironically, or something, yesterday we Invited the Buddha to come to our new Temple in upstate NY. In the strange coincidence column, several odd things went down.

1st odd thing was that when the Buddha statue was placed, the previous evening's campfire ignited again into a fire.

2nd odd thing was the surveyor messed up 3 times- originally the survey was done for 88 acres- significant because some of our dicsiples are named from the 88 Buddha Sutra. Then the survey was adjusted, and it was 84 acres. Okay, no big deal, but that would have been pretty cool if it had been 88 acres!

Lo and behold, another mistake was uncovered, and the report came back that it was less than 84 acres. It was, in fact, 80.88 acres of land.

Now here is the statue, which is kind of odd because of the subject and discussion of this thread!!!
