One aspect of Canadian culture that mi jus' cyan tek is the backbiting. I absolutely detest it. I would expect better behaviour from Christians but I have been consistently disappointed.
Today, a group of us from the church helped an elderly couple move. Like everyone else, I was ready to roll up my sleeves and work hard. Once we moved everything from the truck and SUVs, we started to help unpack and organize key areas like bedrooms, the kitchen, the dining area, and bathroom.
In the dining area, there were a few boxes marked:
"Fine China and Crystal - Fragile"
I indicated that I would do any thing else but I was not comfortable unpacking someone else's fragile dinnerware and crysal in case something got broken.
We did a number of things, set up the bedrooms, wiped down the cupboards, put things in the cupboards, etc. Later in the afternoon, I took the chest with fine silverware out of the suitcase in which It was packed. I moved to put it in the bottom drawer of the buffet where the woman had told me she kept it. As I approached, 2 of the ladies were kneeling down in front of the buffet unpacking the crystal and china.
I said "Please let me know when you're finiished so hat I can put the silverware chest in the drawer."
One of them said "If you have nothing else to do, why don't you help us to unwrap this crystal."
I said "No, as I said earlier I am not comfortable handling someone else's crystal in case something gets broken."
I turned to walk away but then immediately turned around. One woman was leaning over to the other and in a low voice "Su-su-su-su".
I said "There was nothing wrong with what I said. There is absolutely no reason for you to be putting me down behind my back".
The woman said "Sorry."
I said "There was no need for you to do that to me. I would NEVER do that to you."
Both women (the backbiter and the backbitee) made a couple of attempts to just act as if nothing happened and made comments to me or asked questions a couple of times. I ignored them or just turned and walked away.
About 1 1/2 hours later, one of the backbitee approached the woman who was moving and said "What do you want us to do with the broken pieces?
The woman who was moving said "Something got broken." The backbiteee pened th e newsparer to reveal broken china. The woman who was moig said "Oh no, that was a weddding give from my mother. It was very expensive"

Mi frighten till me nearly dead.
At the end of the afternoon, I made a POINT of approching everyone except the backbiter and the backbitee, letting them know what it was pleasure it was to work with them, shook hands, and said goodbye. The backbiter and the backbitee were both standing there and I ignored them.
Renk, facety and out a ordah!!
