it.....the first female President of the United Theological College was invested at a moving ceremony held in the University Chapel....the Rev Dr Marjorie Lewis was anointed by fellow female ministers and the office invested to her with the Right Hand of Fellowship...of note is the fact that Dr Lewis wears her hair proudly in LOCS and is well known for her involvement across the board in enacting the teaching of Christ to see to the needs of those who r less fortunate...
the service was a tribute ,in my estimation, to the many paths that our people have trod in the way to worship Christ...with the conventional was the 'unconventional', i.e. the inclusion of a pocomanian , spritualist form of worship that recalls the throwback to Africa and the slave esperience with the introduction of Christianity...it a history the Jamaican church needs to always keep in mind....
of added honour to me, was that i sat beside my old Headmistress and woman of change in the path of the Jamaican education system, Mrs Fay Saunders...she took on the Headmistress of St Andrew's H S for Girls , the same year that Marjorie and I entered that school...she changed the curriculum and atmosphere of that school to one of inclusion of African and Caribbean studies and went on to be a Minister of Education under the Manley regime...it was truly an honour to spend time with her , reminiscing...
i also had a fabulous time with the Rev Althea Spencer, also an old girl of my year...her mother was a forerunner in the field of nursing in Jamaica...
the investment saw the various denominations in Jamaica coming together and it was truly a moving ceremony
another first for Jamaican women...we run tings, tings no run we
