reading my paper this morning an interview with an actor who's also an amateur pilot. Here's one of the questions and answers:

a so? the English don't &quot;do God&quot;? Athough them have Archbishop and the Queen is &quot;Defender of the Faith&quot;, not to mention the a long and bloody history of fights between Catholics and Protestants?

And he is a card carryinjg christian.. who waited to convert to catholisism while he was prime minister... coward!

In his case the idea to is separate church and state.. not with the ham fisted way that the yanki or the French... but with pragmatism... The idea to band head scafs in the UK wont happen.. But the Sheiks won the right not to wear crash helmets on bikes... Rastas got more recognicition in the UK in the 80's than in Jamaica...

Look the church has members of the lords.. But the idea that the queen is anything symolic is an anthema... in the last decade they changed the law in the UK that prevented catholics being the monarch.. Tjhe opposition came not from the UK but from other members of the commonweath.. Teh queen supported it after her mother died.. Prince Charles was forstering it for years.. I beleive that he wanted to marry a catholic back in the 70's but was stymied by the unwritten constitution and was told he could nto by the prime minister

look there are single faith schools, there is prayer in schools there is non denominational worship.. But the prime minister leading the cabinet in prayer ?????

Disrali was a jew and he is considered one of the great polticians of the UK.. consider that the UK never had a seperation of church and state that is practical...

Old chucky wants to change that title from defender of the faith.. to either defender of all faiths or defender of faith... a more inclusive statement..

this was a feature article - in question and answer format - on an actor and his hobby of flying.

i think that atheism is pretty rampant in England, despite the Anglican faith. there are days i doubt even rowan atkinson (mi know dat is not him name, that is mr. bean name, but mi cyaan memba the archbishop of canterbury real name right now) - i doubt im really believe in god. im used to promote wicca, if i remember correctly, dancing around in the woods in white robes.

so when you say you dont &quot;do God&quot; it doesnt necessarily mean you're an atheist, but that you don't bring God into your public business...

exactly...

Gordon Brown is a christian socialist.. He is commited.. He grew up in a manse... yet no one ever heard GB talk about god unless pressed.. Old chucky is a anglican...

But the way they see the seperation of church and state.. They dont go round thanking god or telling the nation we need god...

god is with a small g in public...

Even Cameron...the concervative is less religious than the previous two labour.. Even Maggie was less god focus.. odd that when compared to the US..

tjhe scots more so than the English.. they have a more checkered history of religious bigotry.. ie the Rangers - Celtic rivalry...
