That wasn't an answer....just a pondering question. If we see death as a punishment from God, does that mean that we accept all of life's ups and downs as a gift from God? Another thing I'm pondering, why would someone who does not believe in God think/wonder/ponder if death is a punishment from a God who does not exist?

Don't mind me...I ponder from time to time.

The body was animated by the spirit but was it really ever alive?

We know the genes store information(memories), can the spirit and or mind accesses these?

Here is a theory - the spirit is the operator, the mind is the operating system and the gene is the memory. If this be the case then you can relive the life of all of your ancestors, experiencing every minute detail of their life as them.

The reason I view death as a punishment from God, is rooted in the western christian ideology of what God is supposed to be and what he is said to have done in the Garden of Eden. Man was chased out of the Garden so as to prevent him from achieving eternal or everlasting life, which was then later promise as a reward for righteousness or accepting Jesus.
Life ups and downs are based on the story of Eden a form of punishment for disobedience.

I perceive or is aware of God, it is not a matter of belief for me, I see and feel God everyday and night.
Understanding, experiencing and knowing God is my quest.

that's hard to say; technically at the time of conception- when sperm meets egg- the fruition; but obviously parts of you are merely handed down- generation after generation---so at least a part of you lived before..

Life is all the punishment and reward we get.
Make the most of it.
Just don't hurt anyone; live by the Golden Rule as much as possible and then it does not matter if there is or is not a Judgement Day.

WHY DO we die?

A; We all die because (science has discovered) the body has a built in limitation on the number of times particular body cells will reproduce to replace ones that die off through time.
If they could get that limitation eliminated and the ability unlocked in the gene that allows regeneration of limbs and other body parts we'd probably live a lot longer than we now do as a race.
