In light of the spate of "scandals" I had to question the reality of living by the bible. 1Timothy 3: 1-10, and Titus 1: 6-9 set out the guidelines for the appointment of "ministers". When these people "fail", some members state that they are humans too, no man is perfect, etc. Does this means that there is an expectation that this is unsustainable?

Hmmm ... Ok then, take the entire doctrine on a whole. One is born sinful, by default, but is to become pure before death. That is a tall order already, IMO. Try loving your neighbor as yourself. I don't believe there is anyone capable of reaching such lofty heights.
