he is wrong the first greatest step in man kind was the discovery that carbohydrates can be fermented to make beer... all other human progress is seacondary to that.. out of that came the need to farm.. hence to domesticate animals... And to capture resources to make more beer !!!!
And writing and maths all started from beer.. you need to know how much beer you need to drink for the year...(Ok the amount of minimum carboyhdrate needed to sustain life then the excess can be made into beer... And since you need an army to defend the carbiyhdrate source... you need to know how much beer the army must drink!!!!)
