i grasp at the scientific data about the big bang theory. and i sway more to the universe ending in whats called the &quot;big tear&quot; due to the univese expanding at a fast rate.
However, I do not believe in the tooth fairy, and nor do i believe in a invisible man in the sky

neither do i...
and living beings appearing out of nothing by a miraculous accident of dumb luck seems just as fantastic to me...

people have to think outside of the box &amp; not just lock themselves into big bang or invisible man;
i think of it like this;
a cell in our body has its own life to go about...yet it is a part of a bigger system..(say an organ)...which is still part of a yet bigger system (the complete person)...
who knows our true relationship to the universe...
we don't know enough to rule out one way or another since no human alive knows for sure how this all came to be

well not to use your words, but yes...in a way, it's far more plausible that life spontaneously began.

because if you take the argument to its logical conclusion, you are left with absurdity.

if God becomes the first, then the same logical problem you are trying to use God to solve- the start of the universe, and creation of life, simply reforms with God as the problem to solve. What caused God.

If nothing caused God, then nothing can cause the Universe to be. If the Universe had to be caused by God, then God had to be caused.

You see that is the problem. As soon as you state what created, it begs the unanswerable question what created that which created...

You can of course choose to believe that God is responsible, but that has more to do with your own personal comforts and ideas than any provable reality.

While scientific inquiry can not say what or how just yet, the universe was created, it can in fact narrow down the plausible and possible answers with which we are then using to build the case so to speak.

So far, a God is not strictly necessary, although there may be one.

As an atheist I would answer that life just IS.
It neither has nor needs a purpose or meaning.
It has whatever purpose or meaning we choose and that is usually based on the prevailing thinking of the time.

I would imagine there are tons of different answers. large segments of the earth's population declare no belief in a god and i am sure that many of them lead happy, fulfilling lives.

My short answer would be that life has purpose unto itself which are more than sufficient to give it meaning.

95% of all creatures when faced with death struggle for life, I would say. Maybe more.

If life were not worth living, why would they struggle to continue.
