Any comments on Chritopher Hitchens' take on &quot;vicarious redemption&quot;; that it is immoral for God to have forced the torture and killing of His Son upon us to cleanse us of sins for which WE are responsible ?

That Christ's death can not logically redeem any other person's soul nor should people have morally allowed Christ's crucifixion to make up for something or which they are guilty.

Or that God ordered this without our permission and, in fact, against any sort of moral thinking.

Listen to what Hitchens says about &quot;vicarious redemption&quot; and see if you can find any holes in his very rational case against God and the concept of &quot;vicarious redemption&quot;

i think christopher hitchens makes good points. i also think religion is not neat and tidy, and you take from it what will make sense for your life.

some people will not quibble about whether their god consulted them before undertaking certain actions, because that kind of action is seen as the god prerogative.

i admire christopher hitchens tremendously. however, i recognize that his approach to discussing christianity is more intellectual, which i think is outside the way most people interact with christianity. so his viewpoints, while well taken, have the consequence of being largely irrelevant.

i'm still an unbeliever, by the way.

An observation with which I agree, religion not being susceptible to attacks from logic.

Hitchens does attack what I thought were points that should long ago have been brought up and some points about religions that prove religions to be highly immoral, things that, up until Hitchens, Richard Dawkins and websites like &quot;Slave Sermons&quot; people were reluctant to challenge.

Hitchens is so wonderfully refreshing in his very effective castigation of both clergy with whom he debates and the totalitarian theocratic practices of their respective churches. ( &quot;Celestial North Koreas&quot with a God you must both love and fear at the same time.



They introduced him to the audience at one debate as &quot;The God-Killer &quot;
