Minister of Religion arrested for drug possession
A Minister of Religion was charged with drug trafficking Thursday afternoon and is in police custody. <span style="font-weight: bold">Joan Elaine Brown, <span style="font-style: italic">54</span> </span>is scheduled to appear before the Corporate Area Criminal Court, on Monday, October 10.
Mrs Brown, who is a member of the Revival Baptist Church in Bull Bay, St Andrew, was arrested two weeks ago, while preparing to board a flight to Trinidad and Tobago. The Narcotics Police reported that she was stopped and searched at the Norman Manley International Airport, on September 24.
She reportedly admitted that<span style="font-weight: bold"> she had swallowed ganja pellets and inserted some in a body cavity. More than 120 pellets </span>weighing nearly 2lbs were reportedly expelled from her body. The latest case follows a string of arrests of persons seeking to enter Trinidad and Tobago with drugs.
The Trinidadian government has been complaining bitterly about the number of Jamaicans streaming into the country with drugs, especially ganja. Last month, police investigators from Jamaica were sent to the twin island republic to investigate the seizure of a large quantity of ganja in a cargo shipment from Jamaica.
This after Trinidad's Downtown Owners and Merchants Association urged importers and custom brokers in the country to temporarily suspend the use of shipping lines which dock at Jamaican ports.
