What Are You Reading?

Reading is a passion of mine, so with my student days formally behind me and in between the million and one things I do, a book or two is always close by. I recently completed Halim Bashir's <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">Tears of the Desert</span> </span>, an excellent memoir of survival in Darfur, <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life</span></span> by Drs. Henry Cloud and John Townsend, also an excellent book on how to set boundaries in the different domains of one's life, and am now on Larry Osborne's <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">10 Dumb Things Smart Christians Believe</span></span>, a book that focuses on ten common beliefs assumed to be true (e.g. Faith can fix anything; forgiving means forgetting; everything happens for a reason) by some Christians.

What are you reading? Alternatively, what have you read lately? What is/was the book about?

doing a study on THE BEATTITUDES so reading a few books on them

The Secret of Happiness ....Billy Graham...fabulous...

The Beatitudes..............John MacArthur(he did a verse by verse series of sermons and collected the sermons into a book...he does that...took his church thru a verse by verse study of the ENTIRE Bible...from Genesis to Revelations...love his sermons)


The Sermon on the Mount.....James Montgomery Boice....

and of course, THE BEATITUDES in Cambridge Edition of the KJV....love the words as that is how i learned to recite the Beatitudes as a child in church....

i have his collection of books...love him...the more i read him, Billy n John the more they send me back to peeps like Spurgeon, Torrey etal...after reading the latter, the former crystallize their teachings...the book by Graham is a relatively short one but the message n the way he captures the essence of the Beatitudes is BRILLIANT...i am sharing copies with people...if u want one let me know...i have haunted thrift shops here and found copies and the one Christian bkstore has it on clearance so i scoffed those up...that is how much that book is helpful...an i struggle wid depression hence my decision to go indepth into the Beatitudes....working betta dan medication....

If you are giving away Billy's book then yes, count me in BTW, you also owe me a CD with tons of information from the devil was a boy

It is good that those authors help to lift your spirits though. I am glad you have them to turn to instead of popping another pill

I just finished reading <span style="text-decoration: underline">Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking</span>, by Malcolm Gladwell.

Pretty powerful stuff... the science of how we make right/correct snap decisions, and how to get better at it.

Mr Witchy gave it to me to read (after he'd read it) because, he said, I'm so good at 'thin slicing' (making the right snap decisions), he thought I'd like to know why I'm good at it/how I do it. I found the book to be fascinating.

Just completed <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Son of Hamas</span></span> by Mosab Hassan Yousef.

Mosab is the son of Sheikh Hassan Yousef, one of the seven founding members of Hamas, internationally recognized as a terrorist organization. The book chronicles his life as Yousef's son, his rejection of his violent destiny to embrace working with the Jewish security forces to save the lives of countless Jews and the arrest of many Hamas members and those from other related terrorist groups, and his eventual embrace of Christianity resulting in him being disowned by his family. A very compelling read.

Mosab was in Toronto this past Tuesday night telling his story to a captive audience. It was my privilege to have met and spoken with him briefly afterwards.

Now reading <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">The Origin of Satan</span></span> by Elaine Pagels.

A very insightful read.
