I guess no one keeps the season of Advent any more. A pity.
Then no one will care to hear about my Advent, I suppose... sigh
Short and sweet - standard Advent wreath candles and prayers, extra daily prayers, sacrificial giving, sacrifice, and solemnity, broken once by the joy of Rose Sunday; the standard watching and waiting in solemn prayerfulness.
I used to do the advent thing with the candles. I put out the advent wreath each year not always on the weeks of Advent
This year the Sunday School at my church will have an Advent Party and the children will make decorations for the Christmas tree which will be part of the Christmas Pageant.

Err... that's ^ not theologically sound, Peasie.
The season of Advent is it's own season, a solemn one, and it's meant to prepare us for the coming of Our Lord. Advent is all about watching out for, and waiting for, the Son of God, the Messiah, our Savior, to appear. We sacrifice and pray. The joy of Christmas has not yet arrived. How can we have the joy of Our dear Savior's birth before he arrives and is born?
The children of our church - those of Blessed Pope John XXIII Academy (our school) and those who attend public school - work on making Advent calenders. They learn all about the Advent wreaths they see in the church and in the school, and at home. They learn about sacrificial giving and they learn to watch and wait for Jesus's coming. And there is an adult workshop for those adults who wish to make their own Advent wreaths for use at home, too.
