u dont live the life simply because...read the bit about the use of the Word to help u in living the life of Sonship..obviously the killer n the addict chose not to live the life offered so they did not live in the Word..i have always said that for growth, one who claims to believe has to have a strong relationship with the Word, inorder to spiritual grow

the Bible addresses the issue of who 'know' but reject or turn away from as opposed to dose who neva know..as a Ras i am sure u remember wich pawt in the Bible dat is addressed...

I am pretty much agnostic but decided to try a ting for the kids sake as I believe children should be brought up with some sort of religious belief so they have a background to reference as they get older. We are reading a book called 'The Story' and I am proud to say mi not kicked out of the group yet. We just did chapter 1

What struck me was how the group refered to God as a Christian God, which challenged my thoughts of there being one God whom we may call by different names.

Generally speaking, when people refer to God, the assumption is that we are all speaking of the same diety. However, this is not necessarily the case. While it is true that the <span style="font-style: italic">idea</span> of a singular Supreme Being may be at the heart of most of such references, how he (or she, in some circles) is represented and spoken of/about is done in very different ways. For example, if someone say we can find the divine (God) within us and that we are that divine, obviously that is not the God christians speak of.

Christians speak of the &quot;Christian God&quot; to refer the One with attributes that are generally consistent across most of christendom, and to differentiate Him from any other that may be spoken of by others. This is God, as revealed in the Bible, first in the Old Testament and then in the New in the person on Christ. Clearly, other spiritual worldviews do not nessarily share that concept of God. We need look no further than how the concept of God differs in the three main monotheistic religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam. As a matter of fact, one could argue that but for Judaism and Christianity, all other references to god in other religions, some of which are also polytheistic, represent him/her/it in a way that is not consistent with the Christian worldview.

The Christian God you describe here sounds like the monotheistic god supported by many religions. the discussion group members were not referring to the divine self.

As one of my favorite buddhists does, is embrace all religions. Meditates by day, sings in a church choir on weekends and if he told me he went to mosque on fridays I would not be surprised. The purpose of me joining the group to read the book called The Story is to do the same as he- embrace another level of understanding.
