I know traditionally the adherents (not sure what word to use) generally give out gifts/tokens but would it be an insult for a non-Muslim to give a gift to a Muslim at the end of Ramadan?

i don't think so. I am sure it would be appreciated.

when likklegen friend celebrated chinese new year, mi read up all kinda tings bout the red envelope and which amount of money to give and which number is bad luck at the end of the day mi just bring some pastry to the party.

Eid ul Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and is the day Muslims break the sunrise to sunset fast. From what I've understood from my friend, before Eid, Muslim families donate or gift to the needy and share with others.. Donations and charity giving comes in the form of food. Outside of Muslims giving to charity during Eid ul Fitr, yes, non-Muslim can give a gift to a Muslim during Eid ul Fitr... ideally, a prayer rug, which can be used on the night of prayer.

Thanks SandiF yes that does help but a prayer rug sounds a bit too much as it is not a close friend. I was thinking more along the line of a box of sweets or chocolate or nuts for him and his wife........???

I asked today and he said any gift is good and he did mentioned chocolate would be nicer.
