Church Attire

Man times have changed...more and more casual in the White and multi-cultural churches. Sunday the new bass player wore shorts and he was barefoot when he was leading the worship. Well I guess it doesn't matter to the Lord but still

I am more concerned about the quality of preaching and the depth of teaching than the colour of the pastor's skin. My pastor is one of the top 5 teaching pastors in Canada. My church has become quite multi-cultural since a Black Jamaican Youth pastor started a few years ago and has really made an effort to reach out to families in the area. Now if more Black singles would come, that would be awesome.

Speaking about Black churches, I have an issue with the long services and the style of worship in many Black churches. I just can't take all that shouting and screaming. In spite of that, when my son was a baby I thought it might be a good idea to switch to a Black church. They had an fabulous Black Jamaican pastor who was visiting from England. After about 6 months, he went back to England. The man who replaced him was not up to snuff. The dropping "h's" was bad enough but when he said "im did not dead" in a sermon it was the last time I attended. I dreaded the day when my son would dismiss everything he was teaching. We attended a great church when we were living in the West end. When we moved, he was old enough to participate in the decision about which church to attend. We visited at least 1/2 a dozen churches.... some Black, some multi-cultural and we selected one where we were both comfortable. I've been with the same pastor ever since and my son loved the children's programme and then later the youth programme. He has never resisted going to church in fact he has always looked forward to it.

Now on the question of attire, the photo that J-Kid posted just about covers it. The Jamaicans still dress to go to church and some of the ladies still wear hats. My Mom was the last lady at her church to stop wearing hats and gloves. I gave those up in my mid-teens. The white kids weren't wearing them so I guess after a while, we fell out of the habit.
