WE ARE witnessing the end of morality, at least, for the time being. But it will come back after much destruction has been done. Morality has to do with life. Those who don't live by the laws of God will find themselves floundering in life, and being aimless and without purpose, and will find themselves considering suicide.
The aim of the media in our times it seems, is to destroy the ancient tradition of Judeo-Christianity and all its laws. It's not at all a surprise, we are living in a most rebellious age. It began with the 1960's, the American hippie movement, whereby 'me', 'myself', 'I' became the centre of life, and it's now playing itself out. Self, above all, is the matter of great importance for our modern times. Thus, it is that nobody likes to be told what to do; moral laws are totally deregulated, all that matters now are civil laws, man created laws, and, as we are now seeing, they are often completely contrary to the moral laws of God - centered totally on people's own convenience. It will play itself out; the young, the strong and the bright have disassociated themselves from the elderly, and from the young, in order to enjoy their lives in full, in the world, for themselves, regardless of consequences to others. Selfishness creates hell for everyone but for the individual self, but finally it consumes the selfish individual - everything that turns in on itself dies.
Thank God the desire for goodness, truth and beauty is everlasting in the human soul; therefore, it's just for a while. No one is more beautiful than Christ, no one is as good as He, no one is the consummate truth of life, than the Lord. The visible God, Christ through His work, His life, His words, His death and resurrection cannot be compared to anything or anyone on the face of the earth.
lived by the spirit
Whereas He lived by the spirit, and was not a God who desired and exercised anything other than compassionate love. He fulfilled all the laws for the sake of righteousness because He respected every law given by the Father to the Patriarchs and the prophets. "I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfil it," stated Christ. He proved by his example and He subjected himself to the will of the Father, dying for us on the cross to save us all from sin.
In our times, there is a great confusion. Right is wrong, and wrong is right. It is good for women to rule men. It is good to kill the baby in the womb. It is good to commit suicide. It is good to euthanise the elderly and the sick. The only law that is good is the law of health, wealth, and personal happiness. Each person is a law unto himself or herself, depending on what each person wants or desires, especially the rich.
Role of money
Money and production are the only ultimate purpose in life. Money justifies prostitution, sex is love if it produces money, for some individuals, gambling on Sundays is justifiable as it produces money, and same-sex relationships and marriages are okay once the rich and famous find it convenient and permissible. Soon bestiality will be legalised, and finally, pedophilia.
No longer is there a clear demarcation of right and wrong. What matters is sympathy, the subjective world of every person, the feelings, the conditions, the desires of each person.
What we have forgotten is that right is right and wrong is wrong, in compliance with the word of God and natural moral law. If we do not comply, the spiritual inner man's soul will be in a state of total confusion, and our conscience - that central part of ourselves which we cannot abrogate will be dead.
We become slaves of the flesh in our unnatural exercise of freedom. "Their women exchange natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, man committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error. God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct." (Romans 1: 26b -27, 28).
The lawlessness in a nation is a sign of decadence. I see decadence practically in every walk of life in Jamaica. I believe a new generation will come forward. But we must remain steadfast and compassionate. We must do more for the poor and the most forgotten ones. We must pray for the future generations. Christ is the most compassionate and the most loving of all. There will be a second coming. There will be a brand new day. One matter we are all sure of, He is the Lord and He will come again in glory!
May there be peace in these times of turmoil. Pray and work hard, for the Kingdom of God is near!
