Designer Dogs?

abu and i are looking for a new puppy

we visited the shelter and saw one we hope to adopt

and we visited the pet store

i was surprised to see the list of "designer dogs"

i guess this helps combat some genetic problems with purebreeds? but what do these dogs look like when the aren't pups?

Mixed breeds is what I call them bout designer dog.

What I like about it is you can get a mix with the preferred things you want. Like Tango, He's Yorkie-Chi so he has the non-shedding aspect of the Yorkie as well as the less hyper temperament.

mummy had some ****zu + _____ ...medium sized dogs (the one wid di bow in her hair)


and we used to have a german shepherd+ rottweiller mix....but that was a mistake

the dog did look kinda goofy too

smallest breed is debatable but the "teacup" dogs are amongst the tinyest usually 3-4 pounds I think

dem seh Chihuahua is the smallest breed but I disagree....

the dog mi did see was full size and small like cat

The problem lies in the breeder not breeding to specific breed standards. For example, here is the official breed standard for a Chihuahua:

Size, Proportion, Substance
Weight – A well balanced little dog not to exceed 6 pounds. Proportion – The body is off-square; hence, slightly longer when measured from point of shoulder to point of buttocks, than height at the withers. Somewhat shorter bodies are preferred in males. Disqualification – Any dog over 6 pounds in weight.

Here is the breed standard for Poodles. There is NO SUCH THING is &quot;teacup&quot; in any breed. All they are saying is that they have a dog in a specific breed that is 'sub'-standard.

Size
<span style="font-weight: bold">The Standard Poodle is over 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulders</span>. Any Poodle which is 15 inches or less in height shall be disqualified from competition as a Standard Poodle.
Poodle (Miniature)

<span style="font-weight: bold">The Miniature Poodle is 15 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders, with a minimum height in excess of 10 inches</span>. Any Poodle which is over 15 inches or is 10 inches or less at the highest point of the shoulders shall be disqualified from competition as a Miniature Poodle.

<span style="font-weight: bold">The Toy Poodle is 10 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders. </span> Any Poodle which is more than 10 inches at the highest point of the shoulders shall be disqualified from competition as a Toy Poodle.

As long as the Toy Poodle is definitely a Toy Poodle, and the Miniature Poodle a Miniature Poodle, both in balance and proportion for the Variety, diminutiveness shall be the deciding factor when all other points are equal.

Proportion - To insure the desirable squarely built appearance, the length of body measured from the breastbone to the point of the rump approximates the height from the highest point of the shoulders to the ground.
Poodle (Toy)

Substance - Bone and muscle of both forelegs and hindlegs are in proportion to size of dog.



Another example is I have a very tiny MinPin. He is about HALF the size of the breed standard which is 10&quot; to 12 1/2 inches with 11 inches being preferable. Emmit was very sick when he was only 10 days old though, so he is stunted. Too bad too because he is proportionately beautiful.

I wish I had more time right now I have lots to add but it might be awhile before I can!
