My pet of choice - a hamster! Yeah, it's weird but I like the little things especially because they are low maintenance
The Junior wanted one a couple years ago, but after a few days, he decided he didn't want to touch her, so Hayley became mine by default. Hayley died after about two years, and it is the hardest thing for me to think of replacing her. I had no idea I had become so attached to her, but I guess I was.
How does one get past that block of replacing a "lost" pet?

When my dog died it took me 3 years to finally decide to get another dog.... I still miss her
At some point I would love to get another one, but I'm not there just yet. A part of that may have to do with their relatively short life-span, and it seems like a heartbreak waiting to happen once it comes home. It's only a pet, but still...
Another pet does NOT replace them but giving love to another surely helps
