... decided it is near time to fill that void caused since Dumplin has been gone almost three years now... searching the rescue sites, and hope to get one of the following:





Hope - miniature poodle



Felicity - schnauzer mix



Gigi - malti-poo



...and the oh so lovely LuLu

Isn't she though - LuLu is/was my first choice... Felicity second... but really getting to me -she is just sooo sweet! Felicity is likely easier to keep groomed too.


They are all rescue dogs, Hope being the oldest at 8 years and was in the worst condition.

There was a male I had kinda looked at more than once, same name as my son, he was in real bad shape, and is being treated for some kind of 'urine' burn on his back - so painful looking! But... a male, and I only want a female.

Not much info so far on Felicity though... doesn't even give her age, although she appears quite youngish.

LuLu however...

"Meet Miss Lou Lou, a sweet little poodle mix girl who has recently been saved from a puppy mill. Lou Lou is a very happy go lucky little girl, who is always in a good mood, loves to please but most of all, loves to cuddle. She is a shy little girl who will need someone patient and mild tempered. She enjoys other dogs and cats but children make her very nervous. A family with children is not recommended.

She has come such a long way since she began living with her foster family. She has learned so much from going up and down the stairs to being house trained to responding to basic commands like sit and down. She loves her treats and adores going for walks in the bush.

She would make a great companion to someone who has time, lots of love and affection and a forever home for offer her. Her age has been estimated at approximately 5 years old. It should be noted that Lou-Lou has an eye condition that will require eye drops, that are available at a minimal cost, for as long as she lives. :


Anyhow, I put my application in... just waiting for a telephone interview... then a HOME VISIT!! Then a meet with doggie and foster moms.

She has a pretty face, big bright eyes, and looks like she has a great personality... waiting to hear more info about her though.


Saw a different ones yesterday =Chablis- but when I called, she was already gone!

miss D .. i respect you for seeking those shelter/foster dogs. good for you. i have never had an animal in my life either as a child or an adult that was not somehow an animal that needed a good home (e.g., shelter, abandoned, feral).

I'm looking forward to seeing which one you pick! Good luck in your endeavor. I would have a hard time to pick too. I guess temperament would win over anything if it was me looking. The last little black and white Schnauzer mix is very cute too. I'd steer away from the Cockers but that's just me.

Thanks ((bink)) but I don't really see it like that, pet shops charge too much, and support puppy mills, plus there are so many people out there who are breeding litters to make a quick buck. The recognized rescue groups have a good range of ages and breeds to select from, work with the animals to ensure they are adoptable, ensure the animals have their shots and are spayed/neutered before they are adopted, which is far less than paying at the pet store and vets combined. (add in... already housetrained and you have a bargain!)

I hear you on the Cockers ((Nan)) but the mixes are far brighter than full cockers would be

I've been interested in the schnauzer(s)/ mixes for a while... they are cuties for sure!

Only one drawback overall... I'm waiting to hear about a job - in my excitement I had a temporary lapse - it would mean extensive travel over the next year, and living away for at least 4 months next spring....

Good thing the rescue groups take time to do their background checks... I should know about the job before they decide.

They are all adorable looking and it would be hard to choose one

One thing you may do if you accept the new position is to work with the rescue group for boarding while you are away (esp the 4 month away time), especially if the rescue group is close by.

That is a good idea Kia! Otherwise...if it turns out you will be traveling a lot, maybe fostering until the dogs find their forever home.

Another thought is to try the dogs at home before you sign on the dotted line. When I took Rosebud she was looking for a forever home but I only promised to foster her. Well, 5 minutes after I had her in my car it was all over with and she was my forever girl.

As a side note...I agree about buying from a reputable breeder if one chooses that route. Steer clear of the pets shops for real, for no reputable breeder would allow one of their babies to enter one. I don't wish to hijack this nice thread on that subject any further but if anyone wants to know how to find a breeder that is reputable I would be happy to help.

I have my rescues and my intentionally bred dogs and love alla them and when the sad day comes that I lost my Rosebud, I will be replacing her with another rescue.

Now back to my regularly scheduled Tango rescue kitty petting.
