lawd have mercy mi TIRED of putting mi hand in Tango mout fi tek out nawstyniss

di dawg seem to love fi nyam earthworm jerky and while I logically know there is nothing harmful in him eating it I just think it's gross and disgusting

tonights walk - 3 earth worm jerky (dead and dry up) 1 bird feather and ALMOST a dead an decaying squirrel...lucky I saw it before him

Now most times when I say drop it he does drop it but the earthworms man mi haffie hole him dung an tek it out

yeah a couple of smaller dogs around here wear 1, it is a light weight one mi see them with.


just till him realize seh him fi stap eat dat foolishness and outgrow it and only for walks

or maybe bribe him with a treat when you outside suh him nuh have nuh need fi pick up those tings.

awwwww..... muzzle for cute little Tango? Say it isn't so! I think he's not gonna love this. I would just tug his lead and not let him pick up stuff. Is a Terrier though still and they were bred to hunt ground.

a dog wil do what a dog naturally does - we humans cannot program them to eat what &quot;we&quot; like an don't like. is perfectly normal for them to root around in the dirt and chomp on them things. no mind <span style="font-style: italic">we</span> miay think it's nasty. to them it's just normal.

u only goinna create more stress fi yourself trying to make poochie do behavior that is not natural to him. they can't leave them things alone, it's just natural dog behaviour. muzzling him isn't gonna do anything but upset &amp; confuse him.

Cesar would say 'let a dog be a dog, doin dog things. not try to transfer human behavior on to them'.

I seem to remember that forcefully taking things out of a dog's mouth will lead to biting and snapping at those hands, which can be a problem as he will associate the action as aggressive towards him, and attempt to protect his range. Better to discourage and stop the behaviour. Ever drop a kleenex / tissue on the floor? Watch how quick the little vacuum cleaner will devour it!

Not if you properly train the dog to it.
Midnight was trained at St Hubert's Giralda in Madison, NJ (a very prestigious dog training school). yeah, he went to Catholic school... lol

Anyhow, he was trained so that if I tell him to &quot;sit&quot; and then to &quot;open&quot; [his mouth], he will sit and open his mouth and let me reach in and take whatever is in his mouth out of it.

He not only does not growl or anything, he does not snap nor bite -- he never has.

He also was trained to &quot;drop it&quot;... and to walk &quot;on by&quot;. So if, on a walk, he tries to eat something nasty, if I see it before it's actually in his mouth - I tell him &quot;Leave it&quot;... and he will. If I then tell him &quot;On by&quot;, he will continue to walk past it... although not always happily.

The basic commands Midnight knows are:
Come.
Sit.
Stay.
(and a sit-stay)
Up. (beg)
Down. (lie down)
Off. (get off)
Four to the floor! (put all 4 paws down, stop jumping up)
Okay! (his release word)
Roll. (roll over)
Play dead.
Speak! (one short yip)
his counting words - he can demonstrably count to 10
Read. (he'll stare at text for a few moments as if reading, then start to 'talk' with short yips and other barks and sounds - like he's reading aloud)
Kill. (not a command to actually kill, but to take a person down to the ground and stand over him, guarding)
Guard.
In the car/truck/house. (get in)
In the condo. (get into the dog pen our in the back yard)
In the crate. (get into the crate)
Where's your leash? (he'll find it and take it into his mouth and bring it to me)
Wanna go out? (back door)
Wanna go for a walk? (front door)
Porch! (confine himself to the porch and don't leave it for any reason unless his tail's on fire)
Kissy cat.
Kissy kissy. (us)
Fetch.
Bring. (go find it then bring it to me)
Gee!
Haw!
HIKE!!
Easy.
Slow.
Muppy Puppy, Muppy Puppy. (it's a march)
Uppie Puppy. (jump up onto bed/truck tailgate/whatever)
Wait! (pause and look at me and wait for his next direction/command)
Go play! (a release to go play with other dogs)
Play nice. Be nice. (commands for acting nicely in public areas like stores)
Bad dog!! (cease and desist [from whatever] immediately and be repentant)
Bathtime! (get into the bathroom)
In the shower.
Dry off! (roll in the towels on the floor to dry off after a shower)
