Her Timing is off

My senior dog, Kissy (the one who went on the 2 day adventure) seems to have problems with making her way outside before the poops comes out.

This has happened before from time to time but now it is more frequent (as in twice a week).

She is normally a very clean dog and does show embarassment as she makes her way back in after the episode.

However the constant sanitizing of the pathway to the doggie door to clean up is starting to wear thin.

She normally enjoys hanging outside all day but given the weather has taken to hanging out indoors (i think the rain is affecting her arthritis or like the rest of us humans is giving her the blues)

Any ideas to help with this? We have been timing her feeding to get her poop schedule together so she wont leave 'calling cards' at 4AM.

The only thing I can think of is feed her a little earlier in the evening and give her one good long walk before bedtime.

oops she did it again

she has access to a doggy door where she goes in and out during the day as she pleases.. and this is happening in the daytime too so not an issue of a closed door

(((Kia & Kissy))) There are so many reasons where this might come out of nowhere. One can only hope to narrow down possible causes sooner rather than later!


I guess I would do things in this order:

Think long and hard if she is digesting anything different than what she is used to. (although Huskies tend to be able to digest dang near everything by nature...as they age, just like us...things change)

If you are reasonably certain that she has not digested anything out of her norm, then I'd make an appointment with the vet to have her tested for worms or any other virus she may have picked up during her disappearance. The timing is kind of right for that if you think about it, but then this is the kind of thing that can throw you off when trying to figure out the real problem. Many times I've been sure a circumstance is a possible cause of something, only to take the dog to the vet and find out I was way off.


They change formulas in food which can cause things like this...the possibilities are many

yes there have been changes to her diet but this is really her ahm 'regular elimination' that has been let out inside the house.

she was underweight when she came back home so we added a 1/2 can of dog food to her regular dry food. Yesterday instead of the dog food we added some chicken broth. Usually she has dry food

I will tweak her diet and see what changes take place

You can try giving her some yogurt too, and if it's really runny you can even give her some Immodium.

Another thing I have done is to not feed the regular food for a few days and substitute it with cooked rice and a little hamburger and the yogurt. Then once the poop storm ceases slowly introduce the food back in over a couple of days or so.

It will usually straighten itself out barring some other ailment. Makes for a long day and a tiresome job of scrubbing!

I dont think it is so much a digestive issue on second though but moreso when she has to go to poop, she is just not making it through the door in time but I will give her some rice & hamburger over the next few days and see how it goes
