Price quotes

So I have emailed a few vet clinics for price quotes on having Tango neutered.

It is simply unreal how different the prices are

Now don't get me wrong, I am not looking for cheap and shoddy work for my baby. But hey, I want to get the BEST bang for my buck so to speak.

following are 2 of the quotes I have recieved so far.

thats riduculous me pay bout $30 or therabouts fi neuter the puss ( i got a voucher from the humane society which reduced cost by $80.)...and tango is approx the same size as Max the puss

Okay so that would be almost $140cdn then add tattoo and chip and then they will probably charge for IV during and blood test and other &quot;optional&quot; things. Which would make it close to $250-300.

Do you live in a small town/suberbia type of location? or would your vet be considered a &quot;down town&quot; Vet?

i dont remember them nickel n diming mi fi max's operation

I am getting the impression that the small town/suburban places have a more reasonable price than the &quot;downtown&quot;. I may have to make a day trip out of town to get this done

my vet participates in the Humane Society programme for spay/neutring of pets.

maybe this is one of the services that them doan try to mek money on..but do it because them think it's important...not sure if prices are representative of most in the area.

u doan think a trip on the day of might be a little nerve wracking fi tango? anyway good luck..

The following is from a clipping two years ago here (so the price percentage increase is not figured in) -for a city operated spay/neuter clinic. (check with your local SPCA/Humane Society -they likely have more reasonable rates)


'Fees for sterilizing dogs and cats at the facility on Concourse Gate in the Merivale Acres Business Park will rise between four and 20 per cent, depending on the type, size and sex of the animal. According to a staff report, even with the price increases, the $140 to $205 basic fees for dogs and $60 to $100 rates for cats are 50 to 60 per cent of what it costs for the services at private clinics. '


With the price increase, the costs would be roughly $120 males to $250 females (private vets are close to double so the prices you were quoted are fairly normal)

It is also normal (here) for cats to be less expensive than dogs, and females are also more expensive than males as it is a more detailed surgery.

Oh yes... if Tango has any dental problems they may likely 'offer' to provide the dental work at the same time, since he would already be under and they can do both at the same time. ('offer' means more dollars)

In consideration, a day trip (gas dollars) probably equals the extra you'd pay by seeing your regular vet. Plus, his level of discomfort would be a little higher with a longer car ride; pain, stress, nausea etc.
