Kids teasing dog

I had to speak to a kid down the street for messing with my dog through the front window two days ago.

The people next door were dog sitting. The dog was tied and in a fenced yard (with a bowl of water) There were people in my yard the dog just looked at (did not bark or growl). My dog was at the patio door barking at the dog. The dog just looked curious.
The kids next door told kids from down the street not to go in the yard.

One kid (a bystander who does not live next door)told me that they heard the dog yelp. Then a kid (who was told not to go in the yard) came out crying with he his face bloody. He told the other kids that the dog bit his nose.

I hope that animal control does not come for the dog. (Broward county has a one strike policy).

I would really vex if that was my dog. The kid was told to stay out of the yard. The dog yelped before biting so the kid must have done something to the dog.

I feel sorry for dog because it was minding it's own business. I feel sorry for the lady next door because now she will probably get sued. I do feel sorry for the kid too but he brought it on himself.

I don't think the dog should be put down. If the kid did not trouble dog this would not have happened.

Dont trouble trouble or trouble will trouble you.

That is exactly what happened. My thoughts are the kid went into a fenced yard that was not their property. Were they invited into the yard by someone who lived there? If not, they may have been trespassing.

Considering the dog yelped 1st, a case could be made the dog acted in self defense and no charges brought against the dog?

I agree.

He was not only not invited but told to stay out. The big problem for the dog is that it's a Pit Bull. The kid is about 8 or 9.

The dad came up and talked to the woman next door. It seemed pretty amicable. But, you know people are going to be encouraging him to sue her.

you know what freaks me out?????!!!!!!! woody easily weigh 150 lbls. i weigh a buck 20. i've had people had their toddler runnung up to him and being angry mwhen they spook him this from a dog that doesn't bark

I had an American Bulldog who weighed about 90 lbs in her prime. She loved kids. Some people would FREAK when she wanted to kiss kids.

My Dobie was shy. He was about 80 lbs. He did not want to bother kids but also did not want to be bothered. A 4 year old was jumping at him yelling "RAHHH" once in a park. Poor Dino just barked. But the kid kept on for a a couple of minutes till the Mom (who was further away than she should have been got her kid) I cussed the parent and called the kid a brat.

Another time a woman was NASTY when I asked her not to let her kids just run up on the dogs. I said I will tell them to sit and be nice so the kids can pet them if they would be gentle. she starting telling the kids "those are bad dogs. They bite. You can't pat them" Freakin idiot!

The kids around here all know my little 25 lb terror. He'll jump on them (being friendly because he knows them)

He is suspicious of strangers (even little ones) so I am VERY careful.

A couple of things come to mind but first let me get this right...

1. you have kids teasing YOUR dog through your window? BAD BAD BAD. This needs to be reported. If something were to happen YOU could be at fault if there is no record, that is my first train of thought. Cripes almighty.

So...you are saying there is also a dog next door that is being teased by the neighbor kids? The dog SUPPOSEDLY bit one of them?

OMG, that is really bad bad because I see no good outcome here.

From an outsider POV the dog sitters could very well be blamed for the impending outcome which might end up very bad for the neighbor dog and his owners.

A few phone calls MAY turn out positive since the dog WAS tied, and you are a witness? Meaning they (owners)have a witness. But reality is probably not going to coincide with fact here. Sad to say, just because the neighbor dog is Pitt will likely seal his fate. Unjust, yes. UNLESS, your local animal control person involved is able to see the obvious and is <span style="font-style: italic">compelled</span> to get involved to HELP your neighbor.

I guess if I were your neighbors I'd be making that dog disappear real fast, at least for now because it sounds likely that the authorities very well may come and get him.

people don't excercise much common sense. i don't like little kids coming up to the dog. first of all children are naturally frisky with jerky unexpected movements. usually, if i see a mother with a little baby i'll just hold him till they walk by.

one day tho, i had a grown man growling at the dog. so i don't walk him in chicken bone on the sidewalk neighbourhoods.

woody is not a barky dog but if he's startled he'll growl and bark which is a pretty scary sounding thing. so i don't go there anymore.



you have these silly women who will bring their toddlers to the leash free park and leave them to just toddle around while they drink coffee out of those stupid mugs and yap with each other.

now imagine, you have a variety of dogs socializing with each other and these little tow headed tykes wondering around, drooling and being knocked over.

I spoke to the kid when it happened, then next time I saw around I explained to him that if he keeps teasing dogs one will eventually bite him. I told him if I see him do it again I'll go speak to his parents.

I am a witness that the dog was in a fenced yard and tied. My stepson witnessed the kid being told not to go into the yard. He also heard the dog yelp before the kid came running out crying (with no dog chasing him) I told my neighbor that in front of the dad of the kid who was bitten. I told her that if the police or animal control come we will tell them that.

I guess if I were your neighbors I'd be making that dog disappear real fast, at least for now because it sounds likely that the authorities very well may come and get him.

That is what I would do too. But, so far so good. The dog is still there. If I were them he would gone to visit some one else (or at least in the house)

I just want to add that this dog seems like a pretty good natured guy. He has not barked or growled at us or anything when we go in our yard (there is 4 foot chain link between the yards). He just sits and looks. He could easily get over that fence in flash if he wanted to.

My little devil will usually carry on if some one strange comes near the fence.

When I lived in Boston I had the Dobie and American Bulldog in the car. I was stopped at a red light. The guy in the next lane was showing my dogs his teeth

It looks as though the parent was fair. The kid troubled the dog, the dog defended himself. (could be a her , I have not gotten that good a look)

The dog is still next door. This dog showed no aggression when my dog was sniffing him / her through the fence(pure tail wagging)

I live half a block from a busy highway. Last week one morning I was walking Tango (6am pitch black outside) so I normally walk down to the bus stop and dispose of the bizniz in the trash can there. mi reach an a walk back, turn the corner to head home an Tango stop an look back. there to my surprise was a black dog running after us. No leash. So my first instinct was pick up T an face the dog. him turn back (thank god) then mi walk off an start fret about the dog on the loose and the traffic and blah blah.

This past Sunday what do I see, the same black dog an his owner an a nex dog in the school play ground off leash running around (very illegal) so of course now the 2 dogs follow us an leave the playground. them owner calling calling and them not listening to her
