I have to hand it to my new mayor, his first full day on the job he acted on a tip to the DA's office that our local "animal shelter" has been starving some animals and then killing them because they were starving. They had rabid dogs in the same cage with healthy dogs, and on and on.

He got up personally and went over there to see about the situation. Charges are being prepared on those responsible.

Uh Oh Nookers big doings ah gwann...how bout they brought in the same team that investigated the Michael Vick case a couple of hours ago. They are going to dig some of the dogs up and test for cause of death, Some heads gonna roll on the river now.

Yeah I hope he stays visible like that, that one we had the last 16 years was too cute to get his hands dirty like that.

So...is this the good looking single guy in your post in the holics? mebbe it's time to start a crusade of volunteer somehow. Even a letter to the editor or a food drive to help the shelters who are helping the transferred dogs. Something....

Poor fur kids. Kudo's to your new mayor. He sounds like quite the guy! Hmmmmm.......you should give him a call and see if there is anything you can do for him.

No,
he's married..sort of...you seldom see him with the wife, and I have it on good authority that there is the requisite younger Gf who was just given a Mercedes. so I guess that makes him right in line with the other politicians. The wife looks like his grandmother.

Anyway, some letter to the editor writing or something to help those poor dogs might still be a good idea.

Volunteers from the ASPCA are manning the shelter in the meantime. The news says 10 workers plus the director are under indictment.

The volunteer lady said she never saw people so burned out before, she says they did not care about the animals at all.

How very sad. Obviously, they lack enough volunteers to help spread the work around and funding to make sure they have enough food. Someone needs to start some fund raising and volunteer recruiting.

It's a thankless job really...and very emotionally draining I imagine. Imagine day after day the sad cases you see. This is why I am not cut out for this kind of work but I can usually find some donation to put in a collection box. here we have them everywhere..in liquor stores, convenience stores and the like.

Poor things...Even here, where the policy might be no kill if necessary, they are putting dogs and cats down regularly.

OH God so very sad! You are right Nooks, not enough volunteers! Also, they hire people who come out of rehab (ex. drug addicts and people who have been sexually abused, etc) and that kinda thing....they have hard hearts and really don't care about the animals. I've watched it here. I hope your new Mayor will get something done about this! This should not happen.

They may started out as caring individuals, but overwork and being underpaid with no other options does terrible things to some people.
It sometimes turn up in, of all places, nursing homes. Sad, but common than you would think. I Have seen people neglect their duties, because everybody was doing it.
Nobody had the conscience to report it.
This seem to be the case.
