cat vs dog?? pro n cons

I'm leaning towards a cat as it seems dogs tend to be PRESENT while a cat can just mellow out in dem own likkle space..

Really looking for something the kids will take to, (and an animal dat wont bex wid me when mi cuss aff everybady)

How do unno feed cats in this side a di planet?

In Jamaica growning up, the puss usually fend fi demself or work wid di eat and leff.

As mi naah look fi add to di grocery bill, what is the expetctions nutrition wise when taking care of a cat.. in north america..

on the otherhand.. what kinda dogs keep relatiovely small, dont shed, and dont look weird?..

kinda iffy that the cat gwine tek to the children and really be *their* pet, imo.

dogs probably eat more and cost more in terms of vet and dem ting dere.

There are a whole lot of things to rationalize when thinking of adding a pet to your home.

The number one question is WHY do you want to acquire a pet? It is the first question I would ask when someone would call me for a dog and the first question you should ask yourself.

The answer will more than likely lend clues as to whether you even want a dog or cat. And if you do, which one.

Dogs are higher maintenance because they need to be exercised regularly several times a day to relieve themselves AND get regular walks or some kind of physical exercise and MANY HOURS of training. Dogs stay puppies for a very long time. Usually at least two years of puppyhood. Small dogs do need less of the walking than a larger breed but in general the Toy breeds are not recommended with small children UNLESS...there is much supervision at all times AND the adults who are doing the supervision are experienced with dogs in the first place.

How old are the children in your family?

Who will be the primary care giver? Often parents will listen to adolescents plea for a dog or cat and put unrealistic expectations on the child after hearing promises of &quot;if I can have a dog i will walk him every day, I will feed him and take care of him and clean up after him&quot;...

The above more often than not...leads to broken promises and a very unhappy, often resentful parent who ends up HAVING to take care of the dog's every need...or cat, which ever the case may be.

Ok, all that said...

That part? I can tell you for sure that when people go aff like so, no house pet is gonna love it. It will make them nervous and wary of YOU. It will be a deal breaker for ALL toy breeds FOR SURE! WITHOUT A DOUBT, because one thing I know, is the Toy breeds. I know some basenji's as well, and NO WAY could you cuss aff around them like so. That said...I cannot think of a single warm blooded animal that would deal well with regular outburst occurrences.

Have you considered fish?

Aquarium fish can be very entertaining for the whole family. Aquariums are actually pretty low maintenance if set up properly. I used to keep giant size oscars and other colorful Cichlids. The best thing of all about keeping colorful aquarium fish is that they are calming to watch. I can't think of anyone who would go around cussing aff anyone after sitting and watching aquarium fish!

I kept one of these in a 30 gallon aquarium for about 7 years. They are oscars, from the Chichlid family of fish.



I fed him live goldfish and feeding time was entertaining. I had to keep a 10 gallon aquarium of feeder goldfish as well...

In a 265 gallon aquarium we kept one of these fun African Clown Knife fish



These South American Pacu's were very fun




And Pink Convict Chichlids are cool too:



I also kept Jack Dempsy's but they must live alone they are so mean. I would keep two in a tank, but with a divider...

They are neon and really pretty



Anyway, all the aquarium fish I just posted are rather large but when I kept fish I liked them big! Smaller fish eat less, of course and take up less room.

Chihuahua's do not do well with kids. They are nervous little dogs and tend to be snippy....most of them do not like kids. A dog for kids would be a big lab. They tolerate kids better than any other breeds that I've seen. Think long and hard before getting a dog. If you care for them properly they can be expensive.

I have no problem with cats. But, I am a dog person. Dogs are expensive to take care.

i have a friend with 2 chihuahuas and small kids, they are the most lovable little dogs, do not bark unless someone is at the door. but like every breed there are pros and cons. just search carefully, see how much time you can invest because bigger the dog more exercise needed for them and higher cost.

i wouldn't say a cat. cats will scratch your kids. i'd say a poodle. first you don't know if your kids are allergic to animals. they're hypo allerginic and do not shed, but you have to have them groomed about every four months or so.




you wouldn't have to do this type of extreme grooming.
