Meet Toby

Toby has become my latest project. I first met Toby almost two weeks ago. He was owned by a 94 year old woman who can no longer take care of him. Toby has been living in a grooming shop/doggie day care facility for almost two weeks. What I kept seeing is a lost soul, completely unhappy and looking very sad. Over the past week I had made a few phone calls to people who might know someone who might want to adopt Toby and give him a forever home and I'm still working on that.

But yesterday I couldn't stand seeing him in the daycare situation anymore. It was making me crazy! Toby is 10 years old and was running with huskies, boxers, pitt bulls, and labs!

Anyway, I thought you might want to meet him!

My sister has a schnauzer, not as old as Toby maybe but getting up there. He is a nice dog but man, sometimes it doesn't know when to shut up. It is a good guard dog mind you. nobody is breaking into my sister house without the dog alarm sounding but sometimes it just gets a bit ridiculous.

Anyway, Toby looks like a great dog for the right owner. I hope he can find a permanent home soon. Good luck!

it must have been traumatizing for him to be "homeless" after probably having a loving owner with his own surroundings for years. nice looking dog though. *sniff*

Isn't he precious! I have a full house as far as dog numbers, or I would keep Toby in a second!

Yes...when he spent the two weeks at the grooming shop and running with the day care dogs, every time I looked at him wandering around looking lost it took another stab in my heart. I started calling everyone I know on the phone, someone anyone please come rescue this dog! I'd see him out with the daycare dogs just standing in a corner looking lost and obviously sad and grab him up and bring him inside. He no way belonged in that environment and at 10 years old he wasn't going to adapt to that kind of place. After, like Sue said...he spent his life in a loving home with a lady who gave him attention.

I even heard someone say they thought he was senile. That was the last straw for me! I have a soft spot for the elderly dogs, most of my dogs are elderly...so to picture them suddenly dropped into this kind of situation, I cannot even imagine it!

Toby is far from senile. He was FREAKED OUT! Yesterday I couldn't take it no more so I gave him a nice bubble bath and took him home. I said I was taking him for the weekend but no way am I bringing him back there.

He was here for about an hour when I saw him wag his little stubby tail. I have never seen him do that in two weeks!

Today he was even prancing around, he got back the pep in his step. And then the icing on the cake was when he actually tried to play with one of my MinPins! HA, I think he likes that he is bigger than they are! Anyway, he didn't look as though he had an ounce of play in his soul before.

So...if per chance anyone in Minnesota or Wisconsin sees this or know someone who does that might like a beautiful well behaved miniature Schnauzer..let me know! I have been networking like crazy to get the word out and would appreciate any help in that dept. I posted him on facebook last night.

Anyone here...feel free to add his info and photos to your facebook page! His location is Duluth Mn. Well, I am in Wisconsin but people know where Duluth is. I would be willing to drive a ways.

He is a beautiful dog. He needs an elderly person who can cater for him. I too hope he get a forever home.

I cannot say enough good things bout Toby. He is a PERFECT dog! He's feeling comfortable enough here that his personality is blossoming to overcome the shock of being displaced and the unhappiness over where he first ended up.

It is going to be very hard to part with him but I'm diligently on the case. I've been networking to help find him a forever home and so have friends.

The one and only reason I have to part with him is my own dog numbers are high. Most of my dogs are elderly and as they leave due to old age I'm finally getting down to an easier number.

He is bomb proof. He does not yap, I have hardly heard a sound out of him. He's sweet and proud and just a doll.

I will call rescue and humane society if I don't find him a forever home with my networking, and see about getting him on a list. That is where he should have been placed right away when the old lady surrendered him, but instead he spent that time at the grooming shop. He is sitting in my lap right now, he is happy here so he can stay until his new owners are ready, whoever they will be. If I still have him in a couple of days that will be the next step but I'll keep fostering him even so.

Poor guy. He is so perfect he sure doesn't deserve what happened to him! 3 years ago I sold a puppy to a 86 year old man in Michigan. I am in contact with that man every week and his family has my contact numbers in case anything should happen to him and the dog needs re-homed. I have talked with the family about this as well...and this is the kind of thing that should have gone on with Toby. When it comes to brass tacks, a responsible breeder will ALWAYS be there for one of their puppies, whether it is 3 months old or a dozen years old! So yeah this gets my goat.

dogs have memory but no self awareness. put them in front of a mirror. they don't know what they're seeing.

cat's at least will try to play with the image in the mirror. sometimes that's why i wonder about rescue dogs. they remember abuse and neglect.
