woody was raised by mormons up north as a sheep hearding dog. he was raised with horses.

he freaks out when he sees horses on the telly. god forbit i take him for a walk on the santa claus parade or any other event involving mounted horses.

i didn't know animals had memory, tho't they just lived in the moment.

Dogs absolutely have memory. Think about it...it's how they learn. They also have instinct, which plays off of memory. Back when I did breeding, sometimes I'd see a puppy I sold years later while in my travels. Certainly, they did not remember me...but when I talked to them in my same "baby talk" that I used when they were babies.. they would remember me and squeal in delight and go crazy excited! That is always fun.

Actually, it is more like they don't forget. Then you have the smart breed. I wonder if he was ever kicked by a horse?

woody understands hand signals like the "come here" hand signal because being hearding sheep/cattle dogs - they watch the master and not make noise to startle the cattle.

if i raise my hand (as in putting a sleeve in a jacket for our walks) he thinks it's an invitation to jump and play and he jumps . *sigh* it shows the beauty of his colouring and his shiny golden eyes, but if i didn't know the breed, i'd be scarred for life. caz apparently that partuclar breed was bred to be able to fight wolves. that's why they look like a wolf in the face and a sheep from the back.





at first i was flummoxed. he truly is a lovely dog.

now: question remains: how do i kill *** and keep woody?

anyway; my friend "barbie" leaves the t.v. on for her four airedailes. that's the crux of the question. 'caz i find myself doing the same thing. leaving the cbc radio 1 on for the dog to become mis-educamated and not bored.

anyone else do this.

I play public radio for mine...

The tone is consistent and generally soothing. However, they like blues too. I find the little bit of background sound keeps the mood more calm. They don't startle at the smallest sounds.

I dunno about the killing pawt. I'm not a good adviser on that, lol...

Clancy has learned to open the door to go to my mother's side of the house. Apparently he loves the cackling women of the View on ABC as he goes in when she turns on the TV, sits on his spot on the carpet, watches the View with her and leaves when the midday news comes on.

btw he also likes One Life to Live

I baby sat this pug earlier in the year and EVERY time these 2 cell phone ads came on TV she would literally attack the TV

We leave the radio on for Barney when we go out.

He does not really watch TV. But, I have had dogs in the past that did.

He is petrified of the broom. I think some one beat him with a broom in the past (we adopted him from the humane society. They said he was 3 months old. The vet said he was closer to 5 months).
He does not like strange males (he will warm up once the person is around the family a while) And I swear to God that he seems to hate Hispanic males. When I lived in a heavily Brazilian area he was VERY aggressive twoards the men when he was being walked.

mad puss likes tennis. she probably has dreams of batting away at a huge bouncing ball of yarn.

the other cats haven't expressed an interest in any tv shows.

When I had the American Bulldog I was singing with the song Woman to Woman and she tilted her head when I tried to hit some of those notes. I used to deliberately sing with certain songs to watch her react. I guess she should have named Simmone (as in Cowell)

Cornelius is actually afraid of the tv ... about 3 months ago he saw something on the bedroom tv
that made him scared enough to not even come in the bedroom when the tv was on for about 6 weeks

He's now mustered up enough courage to enter the room and look around ... then he gets low to the ground and makes a run for it

My all-time favorite

My brother had a fairly large turtle for a time and that turtle would sit in front of the tv for hours
(with his little head sticking out of his shell and looking up towards the tv)

that turtle also loved snacking on apples while watching
