k. so tking woody out in the cold isn't easy. the snow gets into the grooves of his paws and he obviously looks in pain. i scratch it out with my fingers

this evening though he caught a strong scent and headed for it. the pee must have been under all the road salt because i thought he was dying. he yelped and yelp in pain. he looked like he was having a siezure for about a minuite. i don't know if his nose touched it or his paws.

i must add, i did buy him road salt shoes but he chews them off. what's to do?

winter people how do you deal with this?

I pick up Tango and carry him across the road and I don't let him walk on the sidewalk where people sprinkle salt.

If some does ketch him, I make him walk in the snow. it seems to help.

well seing as how woody a big man now i dont tink sue can manage fi liff him up.

buy him some more shoes and dis time sit dung an reason wid him and tell him how much dem cost an maybe him wont eat dem

Is the hair on his paws trimmed short? The hair collects snow and ice which becomes little hard balls even between toes. Be sure the trim the hair on and under his feet and between the toes. If you can't manage it, call around to some grooming shops. A lot of times they will do a spot groom like that for you for minimum $$.

I'd really try to get him to wear the booties. maybe they aren't comfy. I know these are from dogbooties. The sled dogs wear them, and so did the 911 rescue dogs!

Are his paw pads cracked and dry? You can always try lotion and even rub in vaseleine to try to keep them from getting too dry.

I have heard of people spraying the paws with cooking spray too. I have never tried it as my dogs have never walked on a city street in winter.

<span style="font-weight: bold">each</span> time my beast goes out we wash off his paws with warm water and are very careful to make sure we dry them off with a towel. and we do it as soon as he comes inside. that salt can make them sick, when they start to licking...not to mention the hard cracked paw pad.

my dog cooperates because he is well interested in getting water and food when he comes back in. that and he isnt a fan of booties.
