I was just wondering if any one has had their male dogs neutered? the vet is recommending that I have little Alex done at 6 mos. I was wondering if it is a hard surgery and am worried about the after care and recovery time. Although I want to do the right thing I have never had a male dog done and never had any nasty behavioral problems or health issues in later years. Any information would be so very appreciated. Hi Keesha, you have a small dog?
I just went through this last July with Tango. The vet wanted me to wait till he was a year old but the humping and marking was getting out of control so he got snipped at 6 months.
His surgery went really well, had to wear a cone for 10 days (actually took it off at day 4) he came home with pain medication but only used about half it. he was his normal playful self pretty much as soon as he came home from the surgery.

Re: neutering your dog
neuter neuter neuter. Especially small toy breeds, and if you start to see him marking, neuter him asap. My vet does neutering while you wait with little recovery time. No e-collars, no nothing, they are like nothing really happened.
Anyway, you will never regret doing it, but you will for sure regret if you do not. Toy breeds are notorious markers.
It is actually better for his health as well!
How is the little guy? Show us a recent pic!

Re: neutering your dog
Thank you both for helping me make a decision that I was unsure of.Yes little Alex is a small breed. He is what they call a [censored] chi. He is 6 lbs right now and will be 8 to 9lbs when grown. I am still having problems sending pictures, but will send some when I can get someone to help me lol. Keesha
