Re: Frontline vs advantage
It will be interesting to see replies. I don't use either (or anything else)so I can't help you with this one.
However...
Whatever you all use, stay the heck away from things like "sargents" products. I can't even begin to tell of how many dogs I know of who have had serious reactions and even death from that stuff.
Flea collars, same thing...don't even think about going there...toxic!

We use frontline and have not really checked anything else. We live in tick country and it works for usIf you don't fight for what you deserve, you deserve what you get.

You are so right. The Harts nearly killed my old Dobie during his last year on earth.

Re: Frontline vs advantage
I use Advantage Multi because it contains both the flea control and heartworm medication.
My parents use Frontline because Advantage did not work for long on their dog. I think which one works best depends on the dog and/or your location. My parents and I have different types of dogs and live in different locations.
I think you probably should just try them out. If your dog gets fleas before the 30 day wait is up then you need to try a different one.

I have been using Frontline. I live in south Florida. I have seen fleas on him a week or two after applying the Frontline. I use a monthly pill for heart worm.
I guess try switching to advantage.

My parents live on the Gulf Coast of Alabama and I live in Atlanta. When they used the Advantage, they were seeing fleas within two weeks. That is definitely too soon. You should switch from the Frontline.
It seems weird that what works so well for me didn't work for them, but for some reason it didn't. There are other ones too, but I just can't remember the names of them. I know Petco has one for sure that even costs less.
When you find one that works, you will definitely know it. I haven't seen a flea in so long, I don't hardly remember when. It should work so that you can comfortably apply it once a month with no concerns about fleas in between.

I use Advantage and it cost a fortune for 2 dogs and 3 cats....we have to have it otherwise we'd be covered in fleas in the summertime. </div></div>
Ok. I'll try the Advantage. Barney is allergic to flea bites. If I don't spend the $$ on flea control I'll spend double $$$ at the vet.

Really???
I have brought them to amaica for friends dogs. (I can not afford to provide them with something like Frontline) </div></div>
I had a long response for this last night then couldn't get to the board to post it.
Anyway, I spent a long while with my vet yesterday as she worked on my Zuni doing chiropractic. During that time I asked her about flea collars and she definitely echoed my sentiment.
She gave me lots to think about and suggested other options. I'll be back once I wake up more and have had time to go find the links and stuff I found last night.

Re: Frontline vs advantage
A few people on FB (on Shar-Pei and Pit bull rescue pages) are saying that they are using Comfortis for flea and heart worm prevention. I have been using Interceptor for heart worm and Frontline for fleas. I'm thing about switchin to Comfortis. (You have to use flea prevention in So Flo)

Re: Frontline vs advantage
I fully understand the need for flea control in warmer climates, though it is still a foreign concept if you know what I mean!
I thought I'd throw another one out there. I brought a friends dog to the vet this week for her and there was a pamphlet for Promeris. Google it. I didn't ask any questions about it as we were busy with the friends dog and it was her vet not mine so I just took the pamphlet and done.
