Sardines

I nearly killed Barney. I read something about giving dogs Sardines. I bought the ones packed in Olive oil. I only gave him one filet and a likkle of the oil per day till the can was done (3-4 days) It gave the poor boy the runs BAD!

We just left the vet. She thinks the oil was too much for him. He is sipping Pedialyte today. Then on to bland and boiled for a day or two.

too bad. He loved the Sardines.

I'd never get pass the smell of the sardines to try that and it's good to know not to!

The vet said that a small amount of WATER packed Sardines once and a while is ok.

Poor Barney. I feel sorry for them when their stomachs tear up.

My dog is known for hiding things so I could not go there with the sardines. I guess as long as I mashed it up and mixed it in good then it would fine.

Now what is it that a sardine is supposed to do?

My dog took a chaw of an aloe plant once.....oh boy! cleaned him right out

The shot the vet gave him last night knocked him out.

He ate a small serving of boiled rice and hamburger. (He won't be grain free this week).

He is napping now. (Which I am sure is his norm. I would usually be at work now. I am on vacation this week)

I did mash them up.

Sardines hidden around the house? Wouldn't that be pleasant!

I can remember back when Hurricane Gilbert hit Jamaica and stripped all the fresh fruit and veggies off and food was hard to find.
The Canadian government donated tons of sardines which were sold at all the grocery stores for little money.

My neighbor's dogs lived on those cheap sardines (cheaper than dog food) for months but I can't remember if they were water packed or oil packed.

I can also remember feeding the dogs fish that spoiled and they ate them up head, bones, scales-nothing left.

There's about a tablespoon or two of oil in sardines so I can't understand how that little could upset a dog's stomach.

BUt... I don't know everything about dogs and particular dogs might be more sensitive.

The yard dogs seem to be able to eat anything without any harmful effects but indoor pet dogs might be more sensitive.

LOL. I learned early that unless it is too small for her to to pick up and hide feasibly then it better be dry.

But you still didn't say what it was for. You forgot? I guess if you could have remembered then you would have said it at the beginning. Sounds like something for the coat.

When we were at the vet the only thing we could think of was the Sardines.

No we are thinking he ate something far worse. The end of a bag of Trail mix (a small amount raisins of and a few nuts)seems to be missing. Every one in the house said they did not eat of the last bit of the bag. Maybe it was left on the kitchen counter. But, we have not found the bag.

If it was the trail mix we are lucky that Barney is alive. Good thing there was very little left.

He seems to be making a full recovery. He ate 4 small meals yesterday and one this morning. He is drinking fluids and (thank God) peeing ok.

We are not 100% sure. We never found the bag. It could be under my big 20 year old water bed. There is a space in the middle between the drawers.

The humane society had named him Barney. The JD family could not agree on a name so we kept it. I wanted to name him Ivan. It would have fit him. He can be a terror.
