Everybody isn’t cut out for everything. I had a male dog and female dog that resulted in a litter of puppies. The entire experience from heat to birth was something I knew I would not intentionally go through again. My dogs will always be spayed or neutered, and I’m still not too convinced that I would have two of the opposite sex in my house.
So my friend, J, calls me around 9:00 last night. Her pregnant dog had hidden under her bed and would not come out. I tell J that it might be that time and that Krystal hid under the bed too right when she was about to give birth. About an hour later, she did have one puppy. My friend puts her and the pup in the doggy bed and all seemed to be well.
Around 3:00 a.m., J wakes up and her dog is lying on her with another puppy half way out her behind. This pup did not survive. Somehow dog mom, one live pup, and one dead pup ended up in the doggy bed together. J couldn’t bear to pick it up and dispose of it right then. We talked through it and made a plan for what to do when the dog mom was out of the room and how she would take it away from the house.
Dear God around 8:00 a.m., the dog mom started giving birth to another puppy!
My friend lives in my hometown so at this point I called my father. He has a good friend who has lived on J’s street for most of his life, and J clearly needed some assistance. Now there is a vet there trying to pull this last one out. And I say it is the last one only by assumption and because I don’t have an update.
J is a special case of frazzled right now, and I would be too. This is just awful.
