Don't do it! The chance is that the dog will bleed out. They could hemorrhage later. They are already losing blood so they do not need to lose any more and it's an all around bad plan.
Best to just wait it out and do it when it is safe.
Meanwhile keep Fifi confined. If neighboring dogs are a problem get some chlorophyll tablets from the vet. You should just be able to go ask for some not need a whole appointment for it and they are very cheap. You can probably even get some from the drugstore ask at the pharmacy.
It is a mess yes. If the dog is smaller you can get disposable diapers and you might have to use duct tape to keep the tapes tied. Not duct tape on the dog but just where the diapers connect. Also, they do sell doggie panties just for this occasion.
Cycle will last approximately 21 days. It could be longer or shorter and it could also be longer.
