(It is not the same nieghbors / we moved in April)


The people that moved in next door got a pitbull puppy.
He has his big teeth so I'm guessing that he is about 6 months old. He is so cute. He tries to stick his head through a loose picket to give gisses and get his face petted (we have to fix that / I'm afraid he'll get cut on the nail sticking out). He seems to LOVE people. He could be an ambasador for the breed instead of a statistic.

Yesterday I looked and saw that he bowls out there (so I'm thinking he has food and water). It was pretty hot yesterday. but I think he can find shade.

He was out in the yard all day yesterday. He woke me up this morning yelping The bowls are on the picnic table this morning.

I did not hear him last night (so hopefully they bring him in at night).

I hope this guy is getting heart worm prevention. And I really hope that they spend some time with him. He is really sweet. But, he will be a powerful dog. So he needs to learn some manners.

I hope he is not just a lawn ornament. If he is I wish he a female so we could take her if they don't keep her.

Mr. JD keeps saying no 2nd dog till we buy a house. But, he would have taken the dog next door the last place we lived. He also drove to the Miami Dade animal shelter (pink collar and leash in hand) to save a 2 month female pit that some one had posted in work that her "time was up". (she was one of the lucky ones. A rescue group got there first)

He will not going looking for another dog. But, when he sees one that realy needs help he will help.

This is a tough one JD. Start keeping notes and document anything you see wrong. If it gets bad you will have dates and times for reference. Take photographs, and act if you have to like if it gets dangerous for the dog. People get so defensive when you try to intervene so just be careful.

Does he have a shelter out there? I mean, a space that is his, not just cover under the picnic table. I believe just about anywhere has ordinances pertaining to that.

My guess is, it won't be long before you find out if he is being left out all night..curiosity will get the best of you!

If he is, he will definitely need shelter and good luck to both you and the fur baby.

Atleast at night the sun would not be shining.

I can see his bowels but I can not see if there is anything in them.

A gave him a drink from the garden hose a little while ago.

The thing that gets me is he is SOOO SWEET!(just like the one my previous neighbors had) Pits get such a bad rap. and here 2 of the sweetest guys I have ever met get treated like CRAP!

Yeah I get the heart wrenching sweet part. I feel for you! However, there are requirements that people have to meet to keep a dog, as you well know. He is lucky you are watching over, because it will be evident to you if he is not adequately fed or watered! Watch his shape, and if he looks thin he is not fed well enough, has parasites or something else. If you can get close enough to pet him, you can do a pinch test to see if he is hydrated. If you pinch head/neck hair together it should immediately go pack into place. If it does not, the dog is de-hydrated.

But still, your opinions may not be well received so just be careful. Is there any way you can strike up conversation and try to get a feel for what the people are about? I understand not really wanting to, but if you start to really watch (which it seems you already are)...and see things you do not think are right, your 6th sense might be telling you something.

The whole scenario is bothersome to me, and that would be mostly because of stereotypes which I normally abhor. That is where your own instincts need to come in to play!

How about other neighbors? There is considerable strength in numbers. If action is needed it would be best in the form of a community rather than just you alone voicing your opinion.

Don't get ME started !
I get so many cross posts every day regarding dogs someone is NOT taking care of....lost in the streets, running on highways..the last one was a momma just about to give birth and the people surrendered her. TG one of my rescues brought her home and she gave birth to 11 puppies right after..its DAYAM SAD how some people just throw away their dogs...makes me want to...........I don't know.........get violent!!!??

Your a good neighbor JD, keep on keepin on.

You get more with sugar than U do with vinegar. Strike up a convo .....best start to feel them out. Let us know what happens.

Good news! They took him in! So hopefully he will get some attention.


I do not like that he is out in the yard all day when it is hot. I will check on him and make sure he has water.

Nance, I wish you and your rescue were here in south Florida. I think if I fostered a baby girl Mr. JD would wind up letting me keep her.

It is horrible down here too. All the forclosure have added fuel to fire.



When I was contacting rescue groups (about the Am Bull male that I had pm'd you about) a woman from Adopt A Bulls Rescue
(English bulldogs)in Coral springs Florida told me how many dogs per day are put down in the county shelter. Although I can not recall the exact number it was horrific.

The number of pit and mid mixes is tragic. I belive it was you who told me what the % is.

I may beg Mr. JD and my land lord to allow me to foster.

This boy is cute but im a break up di fence now. (probably my fault for visiting with him through the fence).

He is out there but he has a big bowl of water and an old shoe to play with. bout the shoe. They bring him in at night. He can get some shade on the patio.

My boy tried to come check me. He knocked the loose board out and was trying to come through.

His dad is out there fixing it now. He has a crate in the house. He said he is hyper. So he would rather let him run around the yard than keep him cooped up.

I told him he needs excercise. He said he does take him for walks. He has been around other dogs and is ok with dogs.

I'm glad you talked with your neighbor. It must help put your mind to rest. lol at the shoe. Dog is gonna grow up to LOVE some shoe chewin! There was a pit bull at the daycare. It was the only exercise the dog got and an eye opener for me as to what happens with daycare dogs.

The owners drop them off the dogs play all day. Owner picks up dog and is too tired at the end of the day to interact with the dog and they both crash out all night.

Poor dogs never learn a thing from the owners.

I work with a woman in her late 50's.She live with her Mom. I'm guessing her Mom is atleast 80. Mom got a puggle puppy when her long time companion dog died. This pup (spayed female) goes to day care 3 days a week. When she is at home. She is mommy's lap baby.

It works for them.

Puggles are cute! Yeah, day care is great when the owners pick the dogs up and actually DO something with them. From what I saw, not many do. The PitBull is a mess to this day. I see him once in awhile and hear through the grapevine that the owner is frantically looking for daycare for him. She says &quot;he needs friends to play with&quot;, but what she gets told is he needs her to spend time training him. For one example, he will be outside and jump on the door to get in until he is let in. I mean JUMP! He jumps about 8 feet high at the head. Up down, up down, up down. Non stop. He also creeps behind you like he is stalking you and will even jump on you from behind. bad bad bad.

The lady is still frantic to find him daycare so he gets worn out! I have seen him on the end of a leash and he literally drags her around. Well anyway, she applied for a job at a local boarding facility and was told she has no dog sense. Well, she doesn't.

It sounds like that pit needs to run more and get some training.

Barney was TERRIBLE on a leash till I started using a gentle leader. But he's about 3 now so he has cooled out. He is not a high energy dog.

He almost never jumps at the sliding glass doors now. When he is out side he will sit in front of the doors when he wants to come in.

We are working on jumping on people that he knows when they come in the house. He jumps hard when he is happy to see you. Now we tell tell him to sit and tell people not to pet him till he sits. (better late than never).

Our new challenge will be to keep him from scaring the bird.

The pit pup next door (well obviously he is a pup) is HIGH energy.
