It looks like I may have found a place. I'll be getting started in about two weeks. One thing I have decided is that I like a small beak. The toucan sam looking parrots kind of freak me out a little. Fine from a distance, but the ratio of beak to body doesn't rub me the right way.

Popeye used to love getting a spray bottle bath. I would spray and Popeye would squawk and spread his wings to help make sure I didn't miss a spot.

He would even flip upside down to make sure nothing was missed!

Lawd I can hear him/her squawking with delight still.

It is odd, I still think of him as a boy bird, even though after I re-homed him it turned out he was a she.

Speaking of beaks...

The Macaws are gorgeous but even I am intimidated by their beak size. There is one at the feed store I visit.

This is another thing Popeye used to love. I would crank up the tunes and dance up and down and say "Dance Popeye, dance", and he would mimic me. Before long, he would do it all on his own I didn't have to tell him.

Parrot sexing is usually done surgically to know for sure. Cockatiels you can tell by the color of the orange spot on the cheeks.

Luigi has orange spots on his face. They told me that he is a male.

he is a fussy buger. Today he green pepper, water melon and papaya which he is ignoring. He is always at the dry food (which he had ignored the first few days) I will try peanuts and grapes another time.

He has toys and a mirror. I need to get a cuttle bone.

Popeye is gorgeous. I think I am leaning towards the gray birds, but I love the look of the colorful ones too. It's all going to come down to personality. The flipped over position truly cracks me up. Popeye was like make all of me gets some lol.

I have a whole lot to learn. It appears they are more time consuming than I realized. Nevertheless, I'm fine with at least putting a year in to see if I'm right for the it.

I'll keep reporting but thus far one thing I know for sure is "small beak".

Aside from the curved pointy beak ones which may also be an issue, this is a good example of the big beaked ones:

I can tell you all with some certainly that I do not foresee being comfortable with it. But again, I've got a lot to learn so I'll do my best to keep an open mind.

I would be afraid oh that beak
My small beaked man is raising hell right now (chirping his head off). I believe his is vexed because I just gave him some lettuce. Jr. will give him the dry food when he wakes up after he cleans the cage.

The bird does not like me. He will pick at banana in the hand of the others in the house. But, not from me.

He continues to ignore his fruit and veggies and gobble up the dry bird feed. If I with hold the dry food he goes on bad (knocks the dishes off the side of the cage and squawks his little head off until his demands are met)

Funny critter eh? Did the rescue say why he ended up there? I don't know anything about bird behavior problems though. In my pics above of 2 parrots, the Nanday Conure turned out to be a PITA so I sold him.

They did not say. But, they did say he was very nice and friendly. But he clearly prefers males.

I wonder if he would like having another bird, a female? Two are as easy to take care of as one, in fact, maybe even easier.

That is when we discovered Popeye was a girl. Once he got put with a female parrot, Popeye was so in love he started laying eggs!

We are on the list for a hand fed baby (but i think it will be a quaker parrot in a cage next door)

But, who knows I may some day get a female cockatiel and a bigger cage.
