Beavers attack dogs in Red Deer park

Beavers that have attacked at least two dogs — one fatally — in a Red Deer, Alta., park will be trapped and killed.

The attacks happened last week when the dogs swam after the beavers at Three Mile Bend, an off-leash park in the central Alberta city, said parks superintendent Trevor Poth.

One dog reportedly died from blood loss. A handful of other beaver run-ins have also been reported but not confirmed, said Poth.

Heather Markiw said that one of her 10-month-old shepherd-cross dogs needed stitches after a scuffle with a beaver on an island in a park pond last week.

Poth said this is the first time there have been any problems with aggressive wildlife in the park's 20-year history. About six to 12 beavers live at Three Mile Bend, he said.

Because of the gravity of the incidents, the beavers will be trapped and killed, Poth said on Wednesday.

Beavers are not usually aggressive unless threatened by other animals, he added

The beavers are probably just protecting their young and because of that they must be killed.

The dogs threatened the beavers, they Do What is normal defensive action.
The dog gets killed And the want to anhilate the animals from the nature park.

So if the can't live naturally in a nature park where should they live??

Are you sure it is not a regular park where you can let your dog off the leash and not exclusively a dog park?

People should have dogs that can be controlled even off the leash so they would not mess with things like beavers that are more than a match for dog in the water.

yes dat is wat it is...i go to some parks dat u can tek di dawg but dem haffi be pon leash...dis one is one dat u can mek dem run free but is not solely a dawg park...juss one dat allow u to have di dawg free...

... they can't beavers are quite agressive and will fight with other beavers where-ever they're relocated to.

It is an off leash dog park, the only one in that area. Dogs are expected to respond off leash as they would on leash.

In my area there are many more off leash areas than in red deer but the ones near water are on leash. for a reason.

If I took my dog to beaver flat alberta I would never taker hi off leash
