90 days late... but I couldn't come with the news before now

Sorry for the tardiness of the news, but I've had a lot of trouble dealing with this bit of bad news.






I couldn't get a better pic to show both the pretty pink marble urn and the inscription clearly legible (due to camera flash on the brass plaque) ...
so it reads:

Oh Witchy, I am so sorry!

I saw your post and my heart just sank. I knew what had to be inside...that your beloved Midnight is on his own separate journey for awhile...The pain is fresh in my heart from losing a fur baby this month so I can feel your hurt...I am so very sorry.

My Condolences, Witchy, he was a good dog!

My mom published an obituary in the local paper when her beloved 16 yr. old husky, Turbo, died; with his picture and all. Someone actually called the paper and arranged to contact her because he had one of Turbo's puppy sons. (Turbo loved to wander the town there was no stopping him.) Mom went and met the puppy and was so thrilled to see him.

Thank you, everyone, for you kindness.

My heart is truly broken. My boy went <span style="font-style: italic">everywhere</span> with me - he even traveled with me and stayed in some of the best hotels, in his declining years.

This is our first Halloween without Midnight, and I'm not looking forward to this, either. Every one of about 150 children is going to ask where my dog is. I'm going to have to tell 150 people, say it 150 times, that my dog is dead. OMG

Midnight always wore a costume to sit at the front door and greet each kid in the neighborhood, and oversee that I gave out enough pieces of candy to each child. For 16 years. Some years he wore his biker's jacket and cap with little booties that had chains on them. Other years he wore his red Doggles and his bomber jacket and a silk scarf. Some years he wore his denim jacket and a t-shirt and a little doggie baseball cap. One year he scared the hell out of the kids with a witch hat and vampire fangs that I'd glued to his canine teeth with denture glue. (I only did that once - the poor dog hated me for weeks after that, trying to bite me every time I put my hand near his face. lol) One year we colored his black hair neon hot pink with Manic Panic in Atomic Pink... and he glowed in the dark for a couple of weeks thereafter, 'till it all washed out. I think he hated that, too. He knew that he was glow-in-the-dark fluorescent neon hot pink and wasn't intended by God to be... he was ticked off at me for weeks after that, too. (Hey! If it was good enough for <span style="text-decoration: underline">my</span> hair, why wasn't it good enough for his??) Another year we put a huge red bow on his head - right between his ears - and velcro-ed it to his wire-terrier double-coat of hair. He finally tore it off about halfway through the evening, and ate the stupid bow before I could stop him.

Come to think of it, I think the single one day of the year that poor ole Midnight hated the most was Halloween...

Awwww, Witchy. The memories are sweet. Someday they will make you smile...

When Bucko left I didn't talk about it for months and months same way. A year of seasons and holidays came and went and in that year I could barely stand it out in my yard, because my boy wasn't standing out there talking to me and putting on a show.

I know your heartbreak so well...hang in there Witchy, better days will come. They never leave our hearts, they are always with us, we just can't see them right now.
